THREATENING WATER CRISIS
Clean water, a, scarce and essential “building block” for life :
Water not only supports life but also plays a fundamental role as building block of practically in all human activities . Water is the greatest building material for human body. 60 @ of an adult contains water. According to medical science an average adult require a minimum of 0. 7 to o.8 liter of water per daily for maintaining the water volume , which is regulated by thirst, anti diretic hormones[ADH] and kidney. Up to 5% loss of fluid loss from the body causes mild dehydration that can be easily corrected by rehydration. Up to 10% of loss of water cause moderate dehydration and require immediate step to rehydrate. Up to 15 % loss of fluid is considered to be severely dehydrated and to be treated with medical emergency.
It is estimated that the hydrosphere contains about 1460 million Km of water which includes ice caps, glaciers, fresh water lakes, back waters ,rivers and underground water. Of this97.3 % is in the Oceans and inland seas. Oceans cover 70.8% of the earths total surface area and hold 1445 million cubic Km water which constitute 98.9726% of total water of hydrosphere. The remaining 1.0274% alone is fresh water. Of this ice caps and glaciers etc are not accessible to people easily. So for human needs and activities only less than 1% of total water is available . However by the very same human activities and development with out much human fore thoughts and respect to the nature varies precious water sources were also polluted and contaminated in reducing clean water source for his own needs. Mean while due to the lack of sufficient source of surface water etc, over exploitation of under ground water has been taking place for a long time. This lead to alarming depletion of ground water affecting flora and fauna and environmental degradation and ecological imbalance leading to climatic change.
In the absence of adequate natural... [continues]
