Thorpe Park Task 1
External – communication is when a business communicates outside of the business for example face to face or phone calls and it is on helping the business grow and move forward.

Internal – internal communications is communication inside the business and it is a way to inform the shareholders or staff of their jobs to do. All internal communications should be done quickly to inform the staff so they can carry on.

Verbal – verbal is mostly speaking and talking to people face to face, this may also be talking on the phone for work to be done outside the business.

Written – this is a way of communicating on paper for example, if you had to inform an employee about a wage increase it would be done by post.

Web based – all companies and business like Thorpe park have a website were they can be contacted by customers or employees with. It is also a place were they put information so customers don’t have to ask questions but incase their question hasn’t been answered they would most likely have a customer service.

Multi media and on screen – this can be through social media websites like twitter or face book.

Updating knowledge - Emails and letters can be sent to either employees or customers to inform them about future plans for the park or discounts, this is also a good way to encourage more people to come to the park as you are informing them. This would be up to the finance department to do; this would also be a internal way of communicating.

Informing future developments – when you’re informing staff about a new development in the park you should have a meeting, it is the most formal way to inform your staff about developments on the park. It also informs the marketing department so they can start advertising and informing people.

Offering competitive insight – the marketing department will create reports and comparisons to show where you are and what your competitors are doing, this will help the employees work together as a team.

The first type of information that I am focusing on is written information that is on screen, the form of the communication is a PowerPoint presentation which is used electronically to present information to members of staff. In Sainsbury’s they hold meetings regularly and my example of a time is when they had a new product that was coming into their store, the presentation explained the product and how they can promote it. This information is internal as it is in the business its self explained to its target audience who are the employees. The non-electronic method that Sainsbury’s have explained this new product is through posters, they are put onto the notice board for their target audience that is the customers. The purpose of the electronic and non-electronic methods of this information is to keep customers updated but also the members of staff, the audiences are satisfied for the way that the information is presented to them.…

Alton towers target a wide range of customers as they have a lot to offer for different people, gender doesn't come into this I don't think as boys and girls both enjoy rides. They target families as they cant just target children as children cant get all the way to Alton towers and pay for it as well, they try and draw the parents in as they will be paying for the children. Also Alton towers have a big target market on ‘thrill seekers’ that's ages 16-60+ I would say and this is the people that really want to have a amazing time who love the biggest fastest and the most scary rides and Alton towers target them because they also come in groups just like families. Alton towers marketing team have to make new rides appeal to all ages this includes thrill seekers and families, men and women. Or if the new rides are just designed for little ones then families would be aimed at. The reason they target certain people is because they know who would rather go on big headliner rides all day to the people who would rather go on more chilled rides like log flume and rapids. How they do this is making rides for everyone for example ‘oblivion’ that is a ride that thrill seekers will love as is big, fast and gives you that great buzz afterwards.…

Formal communication is when the conversation is spoken in a professional manner, for example between a doctor and patient. Many companies start their business day verbally communicating with every employee. This is usually when the daily game plan is gone over. Everyone states what their “to do list” is for the day and if there are adjustments to be made then, this is the time it is done.
