Two question in my mind have been suggested by me after carrying out this research. So what exactly is Social networking, this concept that is changing the notion of how we view and use the Internet? Will it prove to be revolutionary or would it make its way into the long list of passing fads? Very trivially, social networking could be described as the grouping of individuals into speci c groups, like small rural communities or neighborhood subdivisions. Thus, to say that social networking exists in the real world and can be seen in schools, workplaces, neighborhoods et al, would be but stating the obvious. However, and this is an important point, while social networking exists and has always existed in these domains, the online world opens up new vistas for the formation of groups of magnitude and diversity, which would have previously been deemed unthinkable. The media of choice for online social networking are websites and portals. These are usually referred to as social sites. Social sites serve as a platform for communities of internet users. some of the popular Social Network Systems such as Facebook , MySpace , Orkut , LinkedIn and Friendsters are studied and used everyday . The social networks have a common set of functionalities, along with a brief background of their history. Humans are social animals, meaning they can only achieve their goals collectively. It has been argued that humans tend to develop and manage large and complex social groups. Psychologists and Sociologists have carried out extensive research and shown that humans have an a liation motive[1]. Also, we as humans need to share and gather information about the people and environment around us[2]. This motivates us to form groups which can be referred to as Social groups. Now, let's us see what are the essential and functional elements of Social Network. The main or the required features of human social network are: Identity Humans use quite a complex mechanism to identify others, which includes all senses, and which, generally, works quite well. It's hard to explain how this is carried out though. Pairing Links Links/Connections among humans make them bond. These links could be based either on their educational, professional or even family backgrounds. This a nity or bond leads to the creation of trust among individuals. The recent trend in the cyber world is the emergence of Social Networking Systems (SNS) and the subsequent transformation of Web 2.0. An increasing number of people is Locking towards these systems and engaging in new group based social activities. With millions of interconnected people it's easy to search for likeminded people, and form groups, from all around the world, be it religion, politics, business, education or recreation; for every eld, there are people out there.
