In light of class discussion on the incarnation, interpret this passage of Scripture: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God…. And [the Word] became flesh and dwelt among us” in connection with this passage: “And the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” Please, BE SPECIFIC; make sure that you talk about what the incarnation is not, and also discuss the difference between incarnation and theophany.

In this post, I will discuss the viewpoint of the critics who believe that the doctrine of the Trinity supports polytheism. According to McGrath, in the early part of the nineteenth century, Thomas Jefferson was one of the first leading critics to speak against the doctrine of the Trinity. Jefferson referred to the doctrine as “metaphysical insanities (McGrath, 299).” He argued that these metaphysical insanities “hindered the religious growth of humanity, in that they represented relapses into polytheism, differentiating from paganism only by being more unintelligible (299).”…

In today’s time the other main focus besides Jesus Christ is dealing with the concept of mission to where everybody focuses on it. There are many different definitions that have been expounded upon by scholars of the church or by people who have taken a great interest in seeing the word of God spread throughout the world to the lost. As we further explore the scriptures in the bible we can clearly see that God loves his people and he desires to see them not perish. In the book of John 3:16 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This is the strongest demonstration that God shows and teaches us. Through this we are compelled to put effort into learn the word of God so that we will be effective in sharing the word of God abroad to all the nation of the earth through missions.…

This paper will articulate a correct theology of mission. It will do so by discussing what compels mission, mission purpose, and the criteria that helps one recognize mission effectiveness. Since this is a correct theology of mission I would not expect it to be distorted. This paper will articulate the kind of leadership role I currently understand myself to be called to play, because of the specific correct theology of mission I have been exposed to in the UM Mission class. One purpose of this paper is to apply a correct theology of mission, adopt it as my own, and tweak it for the unique congregation and area of the world God is calling me to serve and lead. The compelling mission, mission purpose and criteria to recognize mission may…

The relationship between incarnation and atonement is central to Christianity. Yet within that centrality we find there has been debate, on more than one occasion, as to the interaction between the two. In regards to the Church, the concept of incarnation is what happened when Jesus, the Son of God, was conceived of a virgin; the divine nature of the Son was perfectly united with human nature in one divine Person, also referred to as Logos (Albl). With the divine nature of Christ in place (incarnation), we then proceed to atonement, “The Christian doctrine of atonement is essentially an attempt to understand the earliest teaching of the Church that ‘Christ died for our sins’ (1 Cor. 15:3)” (Albl…

One day in the South Pacific, a navy ship captain saw smoke coming from the hut on an uncharted island. Upon arriving at the shore, they were met by a shipwreck survivor. He said, “I’m so glad you’re here! I’ve been alone on this island for more than five years!” The captain replied, “If you’re all alone on the island why do I see three huts?” The survivor said, “Oh, well I live in one and go to church in another.” “What about the third hut?” asked the captain. “That’s where I used to go to church,” replied the survivor.…
