Development of the U.S. Space Program
On July 29, 1958 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was formed. Over the course of 58 years politics, historical events and the American culture has played a big part in the development of the U.S. space program. NASA was created to create a better understanding of our universe and Earth it’s self. It has opened many new windows across America and also in different countries. NASA is a big part of America.

To begin with, America’s culture has a big influence on the development of the space program. The way our culture is no one really cares about a topic until something dramatic happens. For example, from 1968 to 1972 were the Apollo missions to the moon. Many people thought that oh were just going to the moon again for Apollo 13, but when the space station found out they may not be able to land on the moon and also not be able to get the astronauts home safely the public started to become more and more interested. To repeat the American public only cares or watches if there is something dramatic going on. Culture plays a big part in the development of the space program.

In addition to, politics also have a big influence on the space program. Congress funds the space program. Without congress the space program is like a turtle without its shell. When the public wants something to change in the space program congress’s job is to make that happen. The president also has a lot of power over the space program. For example, President Obama had a big influence on if or if not the space shuttle missions would end. With his power the space shuttle mission lasted from 1981 to 2011. The last space shuttle flight was July 21, 2011, with 30 years of humans traveling to space. As you can see politics has a big influence on the space program and its development.

Furthermore, history in my opinion has the most impact on the development of the space program. In 1957 the USSR launches the ICBM and Sputnik 1 both...
