Introduction

The Value of Information Technology in School

We all know that Information technology is defined as the development, design, study, implementation and management of computer related information. People nowadays or I may say our society today is increasingly reliant on technology such as buying stuffs, paying bills, keeping in touch with family and friends and so on. As a teacher, I believe to what researchers, commentators and other concern people saying that education prepares students to be a productive member of society so educational institutions must pay more attention than ever before to information technology.

Majority of schools monitor and control the use of information technology especially the use of the internet to ensure safety and protection. In Phitsanulok Pitayakom School both teachers and students cannot just use the internet right away; both teachers and students were given respective username and password to log on. Students’ access to internet is limited compared to teachers.

Compared to other schools were innovation is quite abundant and uses information technology very effectively in terms of grade book system our school is still on its way to betterment for the benefit of students, teachers and parents.

The Value of Bookmarks’2551 Software in School

Aside from preparing lessons, checking worksheets and molding students to become a good people in the society, recording and computing grades are one of the tough jobs for teachers especially if we done it manually . For six years of working at Phitsanulok Pittayakom School, I have spent a lot of time recording and computing my students’ grade using Microsoft Excel program and finalized it to a grade book for submission. This job ended late last year when innovation software called BOOKMARKS’2551 was adopted, a computerized grade book system. Most of us foreigners had a hard time understanding the program and the process although the boxes were translated to English language but some parts of it and the manual were in Thai language. Thanks to our colleagues, two Filipino teachers, who has spent hours translating important areas of the bookmark and made it possible for us to use the software.

Using Bookmarks’2551 software makes it easy for us teachers to calculate, manage and organize students’ grades. Common tasks are performed easily on the program main screen. Printing reports is somewhat hard for me before but now just clicking the print report button, and the report will come in seconds. Bookmark is portable software, works in every computer; it helps us tracking our students’ performance; and it saves time.
