The United States Government Is Broken
Although some branches of government are required in order to maintain some form of control over the population, too much government as we see today can do more harm than good. I am writing an essay on the broken US Government and how it affects me personally. From my point of view everything the government has created is broken and they are in no hurry to fix things. If you take a look at the schools, universities, hospitals, lawyers, doctors, law enforcement, military, the judicial system and much more you will find that they all share one thing in common: they are all broken and nothing works anymore. In this essay I will touch on the subjects of education, drugs, and law enforcement.
Let’s take a look at the education system which according to recent statistics shows that the high school graduation rate has declined for the second straight year. In 2007 the graduation rate was at 68.8% which was down from 69.2% in 2006. The national graduation rate was at its peak rate of 77% back in 1969. This translates to 11,000 fewer grads in 2007 than in 2006. According to Lyndsay Pinkus, director of strategic initiatives at the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington policy group that promotes high school reform, “The progress on graduation rates has stalled.... We need to ramp up efforts on ... holding schools accountable and [promoting] interventions that will actually address the problem,” (csmonitor.com, 2010, p. 1). By 2011-12, the US Department of Education will be holding states accountable for progress in four-year graduation rates. What the heck has the DOE been doing all these years other than just showing up for work? It is my opinion that the DOE is responsible for the decline in graduates because they talk the talk but always fail to walk... [continues]
