The unexpected
As the muscles in my arms began to tighten and my nose involuntarily began to twitch I stared at the teacher with irritation. The more I stared the slower the clock ticked. Looking up every thirty seconds would not allow time to pass quicker, this I knew however the inevitable cannot be stopped. Silent murmurs of constant reassurance kept me still but not for long. With the urge to stand up and scream out loud I clenched my fists with anger. It was coming, he was coming, oh god help me. Jumping out of the small uniform chair my tongue collected the saliva in my mouth to begin the daily ritual as I begged it to differ. “Miss Kenny! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” the continuous repetition of the same words flowed out of my lips as my cheeks began to swell with embarrassment. Stop Jacob, now’s the time to stop, take control of what’s yours. The constant pounding in my chest began to lesson as I slowly lowered my body back into the chair. Squeezing my eyes shut to subside the embarrassment, the possible thoughts of all my friends ran through my head. As I placed my head down onto the table hoping this would all be over soon, she slowly walked towards me touching my arm with great sympathy, her calming and friendly eyes brought warmth to my heart as the feeling of humiliation came to a holt. “Are you alright dear, would you like to go outside and take a drink of water “? With my sweaty legs holding my body up right I steadily walked towards the long sound proof door. Whilst scanning through the expressions on the other student’s faces, the strange noises were enough to convince me no one had noticed. The best part of the day was approaching and my insides ached with joy. Not only would this time allow us to quench our thirst and fill our stomachs, more importantly it allowed us to have the freedom of doing the unavoidable. I waited patiently for the loud sound of three consecutive chimes to indicate the time of the day. Finally they arrived,...
