Remember the Titans, racism and prejudiced based movie among the black and white. A black coach came over and took over a white coach’s job, leaving fear and anger amongst the students and parents. There are three basic forms of prejudice in this movie, the main prejudice was shown when the blacks were perceived as a threat this is a form of contemptuous prejudice. The social status of the blacks was also another social factor. There were disrespectful, resentment and hostility which is the characteristic of a contemptuous prejudice was seen in this movie Contact hypothesis is said to be the best and efficient ways to diminish the prejudice among the minority and the majority group members . In the beginning of the movie, it already shows the inconsistency to the earlier contact hypothesis when the two teams are forced to play together and ended up hating each other even more. Here's when Allport's four criteria for successful contact comes into play. When Coach Boone states that the best players will get the starting positions regardless of their race, it provokes equality within the team. Therefore, Allport's first step in reducing racism is equal status because the only way to erase hatred is when people from each side are equal in everything, whether it is money or power.
Allport's second step of common goals integrates into the movie when the Titans all want to win each football game to get to the Championships. To achieve each win, they must work together and change their way of thinking from the Blacks versus the Whites to "Us" (Titans) versus "Them" (opposing team). His third step is achieved when they begin to see each other as individuals, not group members. This occurs in the beginning of the movie when Coach Boone forces each Black student to interact individually with each White student to learn personal details about each other. The last step is supportive authority, which is shown when Coach Boone and Coach Yoast also learn to see the

C.P Ellis in his memoir, accounts his times as reputed member of Ku Klax Klan and through series of experiences, the change in his perception towards people of color. His prejudices against the black people came not inherently but from his childhood struggles that led to frustrations in his adult life and already present social biases against the blacks. At just 21 years old, as the coach of the Ohio Wesleyan University baseball team, Rickey took upon himself the goal of ending “racial injustice” in baseball. On one road trip with the team, Charles Thomas, a black catcher and first baseman for the team, was denied a room in a hotel the rest of the players had checked into. After a long argument, the hotel’s manager reluctantly agreed to allow Thomas to sleep on a cot in Rickey’s room. Rickey later told how he’d seen Thomas in obvious distress, rubbing at his skin and saying to himself, “...If only I could make my black skin white.” This incident profoundly impacted Rickey on a personal level. Seeing the anguish experienced by Thomas, he vowed that “somehow I was going to open baseball and all the rest of America to…

"Remember the Titans" is a parable about racial harmony, yoked to the formula of a sports movie. Victories over racism and victories over opposing teams alternate so quickly that sometimes we're not sure if we're cheering for tolerance or touchdowns. Real life is never this simple, but then that's what the movies are for--to improve on life, and give it the illusion of form and purpose.…

In order to promote a positive team image the black press gave Kenny Washington the role of a spokesman for black athletes. In later years, the black press convinced UCLA to hire Washington as their freshman team coach. Like I mentioned earlier Washington, Robinson, and Strode were popular on campus. “Such student support for UCLA’s black athletes helped reinforce the institutions reputation as a racially open campus” (Demas, 34). African American players didn’t let the racial pressures happening within Los Angeles get to them because they felt accepted and wanted on campus.…

Prejudice is defined as a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird,” written by Harper Lee, the adolescent characters, Jem, Scout, and Dill, all learn about prejudice through the different experiences they face. They experience racial prejudice during the trial of Tom Robinson. They learn about class prejudice through the ways different people are treated in their small town. And, they learn about gender prejudice when people stereotype Scout and the way she acts and dresses. Prejudice is the unjustified discrimination against a particular thing, whether it be music, food, a breed of canine, a particular race of humans. Prejudice customarily stems from the nescience of people, prejudging anything without having first examined it. This in turn, forms in the minds of some and ruptures into a blind and confident opinion, however monstrous it is. Though ignorance is a strong characteristic of prejudice, family morals or even fear can develop prejudice further to become something more widespread and embedded into culture. The Film 'The Power of One' (1992) filmed by David Avildsen and ' The Help' (2011)directed by Tate Taylor; both explore these themes of prejudice deeply.…

For example, while slavery was never quite as intense in the North as it was in the South, racial prejudice still existed there decades after it was abolished. “In northern and Midwestern cities, the arrival of southern immigrants deepened existing racial tensions". Segregation, restrictions on living space, and harsh working conditions were some components of racial injustices in the North. With a large influx of African Americans, white people felt threatened and possessive over the society that was already established. They didn’t want to compete with black people. Next, going along with racial injustices were violent attacks toward black people. “The riots of 1917 in East St. Louis, Illinois … were among the most destructive in the wave of racial violence that swept across the country during and after World War I”. During race riots, large outbreaks of racial violence would result in numerous deaths and injuries. Motivations toward race riots were the ideas and beliefs that white people were superior to black people, which stem far back to colonial times. However, these beliefs were still strong in America. Third of all, while many whites treated black people harshly, others did empathize them and did not carry the same prejudiced beliefs. “I have always known that the negro has been unjustly and unfairly dealt with …”. While some whites were empathetic toward blacks, they still…
