It is a sorrowful yet interesting topic, and it makes me question why it the factory fire is not more commonly known about.…

On March 25, 1911 the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory went up in flames. The owners cowardly ran out of the building, telling no one there was a fire. The women who worked there became trapped, because the back entrance was locked, so many were forced to jump out windows or go down the faulty fire escape. That day will never be forgotten and made people realize how bad the conditions were as workers. As a result of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, many social reforms were built to protect children, women, and to change workers safety and fire laws.…

A sweatshop was a place where people worked for long hours with low pay, and they worked in very poor conditions. People who worked here were there for the money that they needed. They were immigrants, young women, and children. They may have been doing this to support their family. Poor conditions and a few other things caused many deaths in this fire. Also there was a policy from the government called the laissez faire. This policy said that the government can't interfere with the business operations. This was favored by the business because then they could do whatever they wanted to. The business could have horrible conditions for the workers…

Chicago was already a threat to fires because the buildings were made out of wood and they were all connected. The fire was getting bigger and bigger, it burnt her house down and the house next to their house. It spread across the river because of all the pollution in the river and they thought that it was good because the built a fire wall but, it crossed the river twice. It made a big fire tornado. The fire burned for 2 days following Oct 10, when it finally rained so it made the fire die down some. The Great Chicago Fire left an estimated 300 people dead and 10,000 others homeless or missing. This whole thing was a huge accident.…

“I, with a number of other girls, was in the dressing room on the eighth floor of the Asch Building, in Washington Place, at 4.40 o’clock on the afternoon of Saturday, March 25, when I heard somebody cry ‘Fire!’” Unlike those on the ninth and tenth floors (the other two floors that our factory, the Triangle Waist Company, occupied), I did not climb out of exterior windows in desperation; I was kindly shown to a window in a crash door that I could fit through in order to climb downstairs. Instead of passing through the flames as many of my coworkers had to endure, I had the unique opportunity to run from the flames and to outrun the flames. Whereas many of my coworkers were jumping down from eighty and ninety feet in desperate need of a miracle,…
