Torturing Terrorists

The threat of terrorism is a reality that most were oblivious to until the horrific day of September 11, 2001. Its’ images will forever be imprinted on the minds of the unfortunate ones who watched the tragic death of thousands. Many believe that the United States was ill prepared and ignorant of crucial information. What would happen if they had a terrorist who knew of the attack but would not talk? How far do you go to potentially save the lives of thousands? In critical situations, the torture of a terrorist is mandatory. Although it is inhumane and cruel, torture is the only way to get information out of a terrorist who would rather die then cooperate. This is the reason why the torture of terrorists is essential to gathering crucial intelligence in order to ensure the safety of innocent civilians throughout the world.

The word torture brings to mind the inflicting of merciless pain or gruesome actions on a suspected person. It is easy to say that the United States or any country of the world would ban such atrocious practices. On the contrary, terrorists who have vital information of plans to potentially kill thousands of innocent people should not have that option. For those who believe otherwise, imagine if you had a beloved family member who was on one of the planes that hit the world trade center buildings. If you knew that the United States had a terrorist who knew of the horrendous plans, wouldn’t you want to do anything necessary to get that intelligence from them? In addition, a terrorist is an

extremely dangerous person who is determined to cause chaos and kill as many innocent lives as possible even if it costs them their own. Torture is the only way to deal with such a ruthless person.
