There are only a few works of architecture in Uganda that qualify to be on the list of masterpieces. The following is a description of a building that according to my experience using it qualifies to be one of Uganda’s best works of architecture. BUILDING OVERVIEW. This architectural master piece is an office block building in the center of Kampala city. The building has 7 levels of opens space offices with multilevel level parking unit attached to the L shaped office block. LOCATION. This facility sits on the north western side of the junction between JINJA road and SAID BARE ROAD opposite the urban park in front of the Uganda rail way headquarters. HISTORY The building was constructed in the late 1990’s and renovated in the early 2000’s according to the current building manager. THE ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNNERS. The architectural firm in charge of the initial design was Habitat consultants (Architects and building planners). The architects in charge of the renovation to make the building reach its current status could not be identified by the current manger of the building. BUILDING LAYOUT There is an atrium space with a stairwell and lift lobby at opposite ends. This connects to the exterior through one major entrance for pedestrians. The building also has a vehicular entrance. All commercial units of the building have direct access to the main streets of JINJA ROAD and SAID BARE ROAD. The ground floor has shops along Jinja road. Along SAID BARE ROAD it has entrance into the office unit of the complex. The first...
