The Seaside in Winter

I picked up my bag and towel and started walking across the asphalt that was still surprisingly hot even with the chilly air outside. My feet felt like they were burning under me as I hurried to the dock that leads to the beach. As I arrived at the wooden planks, I noticed they were considerably less hot then the asphalt. Wondering why this was, I walked across the dock, my eyes meeting the sandy beach for the first time in weeks.

My pace began to get increasingly faster as I longed for the cool sand between my toes. I reached the edge of the dock and slowly slid my feet into the golden sand, the heat on the top was nothing compared to the cool earth that wrapped around my foot when I dug further down into the soggy ground. I kept walking towards the dunes, enjoying every moment. I could now start to hear the roar of the ocean waves as they crashed into the shore with thundering speed one after the other.

I looked over the dunes to see the empty beach and the waves rolling in. I walked further down to the shoreline and looked out at the horizon where the ocean never seemed to end like a dream wondering what was on the other side of the fence. Time passed and the sun had made its way from being a blistering heat on my back to being a sight for the eyes. As the sun started gliding under the horizon I turned to make my way back up the beach as it would be dark soon...
