Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe,bordered clockwise by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest.

Belarus is divided into six regions. Each region has its own legislative As 2002, there are 6 regions, 118 districts, 102 towns and 108 urbanized settlements Regions (with administrative centers): Brest Voblast (Brest) Homiel Voblast (Gomel) Hrodna Voblast(Grodno) Mahilou Voblast (Mogilev) Minsk Voblast (Minsk) Vitsebsk Voblast (Vitebsk)

Ethnic groups (2009) 83.7% Belarusians, 8.3% Russians, 3.1% Poles, 1.7% Ukrainians, 4.2% others and unspecified


Belarus' two official languages are Russian and Belarusian;

Russian is the main language, used by 72% of the population, while Belarusian, the second official language, is only used by 11.9%.

Russians cannot understand Belarusians but Belarusians can understand 90% Ukrainian speech, and about 75% Polish speech. 很明显是两个截然不同民族和国家

Orthodoxy makes up about 80% of the population. Catholicism is spread mostly in the western regions  Protestantism, Judaism and other religions 

According to a 2005 estimate by the United Nations, 40% of Belarus is covered by forests.  Many streams and 11,000 lakes are found in Belarus.[  Three major rivers run through the country: the Neman, the Pripyat, and the Dnieper. 

Natural resources include
peat deposits 泥炭;  small quantities of oil and natural gas ;     

Granite 花岗岩; dolomite 白云石; Chalk 粉笔;

sand 沙;  gravel 砾石;  Clay 粘土

In the 5th century A.D. , Belarus (also known as White Russia) was colonized by east Slavic tribes.  Belarus became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which merged with Poland in 1569. 

Following the partitions of Poland Belarus became part of the Russian empire. 1939 - the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. 1991 – the Rebuplic of Belarus

Belarus has four World Heritage Sites:  the Mir Castle Complex  the Nesvizh Castle the Belovezhskaya Pushcha (shared with Poland)  Struve Geodetic Arc (shared with nine other countries 
