Education is a tool to achieve many goals. With the education system of today, is the schools used testing as an easier way to show how smart someone is. The pressure of society for a person to strive to reach the best schools and therefore the best education with the best test scores. This brings up the question on whether or not the highest test scores show who the smartest people really are? Education has a positive effect making the students learn the material that the teacher wants them to learn skills to be prepared for the real world.
Twenty years ago, teachers did not just teach the basics; they taught lifelong skills as a matter of course. Nowadays, because teachers are forced to "teach to the test," there really is no extra time to teach the "lifelong skills" material which claims to be teaching--not unless they do not care about test/rating performances. If a child passes the test they get promoted, whether the child does their homework, follow the rules or behave in class and the children know it. Many parents, even of students as young as 6 years old have no control over their child and tell the teacher that they do not know what to do. Most of the children are polite and caring students, but are being overwhelmed by the ones who do not care about school at all. The public often complains about the school system and how they are not up to balance. Children with no discipline leads to the increase in violence and the increase in the number of students who think education is a waste of time. Young people do not value education; they do not value the discipline one needs to be successful. Parents need to set limit for television, friend time, phone calls, and computer of free time for their kid. These children are suppose to be learning while they are underage.
