Name and political party
He is born Barack Hussein Obama. Barack Obama is a member of the Democratic Party. Barack Obama is a former Illinois Senator, and he is the 44th and current president of the United States. Inaugurated on January 20, 2009, he is the first African American to serve as U.S. president.

Birthplace and childhood
He is born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Barack has a younger half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, born after his mother remarried an Indonesian exchange student. He has lived with Maya throughout his childhood and is close with her. He has also six younger stepbrothers and a stepsister by his Kenyan father, Barack Obama, Sr. All seven live in Kenya today. His father died in a car accident in 1982 was he lost both his legs. Barack Obama met his father once, at the age of 10, after his father and mother divorced when he was 2. He has no "full" siblings. He was the only child of his mother and father. However, he is close to his sister, Maya and likely considers her as his "full" sister, and not half-sibling. Barack and Maya have grown up in Hawaii and Indonesia together. At the age of 10 Barack was sent to live with his grandparents in Hawaii.

Parents’ occupation
His mother was an anthropologist who specialized in economic anthropology. She studied at the East-West Center and the university of Hawaii in Honolulu. She attained a bachelor in anthropology and in math. His father was a government economist in Kenya. Obama Sr. also studied at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, and was the first African student in the university’s history.

Education
While he was living with his grandparents, Obama enrolled in the respected Punahou Academy, he distinguishes himself in basketball and graduated with academic honors in 1979.
