The very nature of such sites encourages users to provide a certain amount of personal information. But when deciding how much information to reveal, people may not exercise the same amount of caution on a Website as they would when meeting someone in person. For example, Tech companies gather personal data onto teenager's social media accounts for profit (Mckinnell). Also, jobs might look to gather data about certain individuals to know who they hire. Therefore, it's important for parents to teach their children risks involving sharing personal information to the public.…

What does social network do? In real life, you have a circle of your friends. But what about their friends? And the friends of the friends of your friends? You can get to know people from literally any part of the world. That means you are sharing information with them. And that also means you are sharing a lot of information that you don't want to share! Information spreads faster through a Social Network Site than through a real‐life network. Information might be disclosed to a group of people unexpectedly, because the digital information is easily copied, can be stored indefinitely and is searchable. It especially harms users when information travels through different social spheres, and ends up with people whom it was not intended for. People have been fired, missed out on job interviews and academic opportunities, and been…

(Alexia – Top Sites) Users are allowed to join these social networks at the age of 13, at this age users are still quite naïve. With peer pressure children are often swayed into signing up on a social networking website. This could cause them bullying, them seeing unsavoury content, them being vulnerable and giving out too much personally information to people over the Internet, security therefore needs to be overlooked in this area. We as human beings are naturally private. We tend to keep our secrets or unmentionables out of the public eye. If you wouldn’t walk around naked in time square, or you wouldn’t go out giving people on the street your full name, address, and phone number, then why would you post naked pictures or this information on social media websites? Nude photos circulate, and before you know it, you can find yourself in all your glory on a random website pop-up. No one wants that to happen. This is why not getting too “personal” on social media websites is a bad idea.…
