As with any new technology, everyone is always talking about the negative side effects of the internet and saying how it ruins real face to face relationship, fills our minds with filth and damages our eyes and melts our brains. As usual it’s the panic mongers whose voices are most heard in the media and it’s gotten to such a point that people begin to feel guilty when they boot up their computer. The same things were said about rock music when records were at their most popular, and about televisions when they were first invented. The fact of the matter remains however that we still use both music players and televisions and that the internet isn’t going anywhere either. The reason for this is that although all these things do have a few downsides (like anything), they also have a plethora of upsides. The positive effects of internet use far outweigh the negatives, whether you’re a child, a pensioner or a business man and to say otherwise is not only small minded but destructive.…

Has the internet effected are minds? What exactly is the internet? The internet is a global network made up of thousands of small networks which all lies in the technology branch. Imagine thousands or even millions of computers linked up sending messages and exchanging information to each other around the world. The Internet has made information available to computer users with just a simple click of the mouse but wait, Is it making us dumber? As in Mark Bauerlin’s essay, The Dumbest Generation,” I say I have to agree with his opinion on how the internet is making my generation less active because of how we are so addicted to technology. Look at us now, you usually don’t see people running around playing games or going for visits to peoples houses to say hello. They are usually stuck on the internet through their phones, computers, ipads, etc.…

Brent Staples is an editorial writer for the New York Times. In “What Adolescents Miss When We Let Them Grow Up in Cyberspace”, Brent writes about how teenagers nowadays spend too much time on the Internet to communicate with each other, and forget to interact with families and friends in the real life. Using the Internet too much cost the teenagers don’t have socializing, the real world experience that would allow them to leave teenagers behind and grow into adulthood. (Staples 18) I strongly agree with Staples that many teenagers spend too much time on the Internet for chatting and playing online games than for studying and socializing. When teenagers spend too much time on the Internet, they will miss out the experience of talking face-to-face and don’t know how to communicate to a job later. Indeed, the Internet seriously takes away the socializing time of teenagers and makes them don’t have any social skills to communicate with the people in the real world.…

The internet or the cyberspace has rapidly grown since the start of the 21st century. I would reckon that there are more and more people in developing countries who have access to the internet and that the great divide is slowly decreasing. The world of technology and the age of information could be the main cause of its rapidity. Everyday the internet offers millions of new information, new products, and new methods of socialization. Although, understandably there are still a lot of places that have no access to the internet, but if these places have been penetrated by technology, it would not be long before they do.…
