The Opportunity to Become
My interest in physics stems from mankind’s inherent interest in how things work. I have always been fascinated in the physical properties of matter, as well as its applications to the real world. I have bold aspirations for my future career in physics, as I have dreams of developing tomorrow’s new cutting edge technology. Also, I am an innovative person and I am always coming up with new ideas for inventions. One day, I would like to apply the knowledge I learned from physics in university and file for a patent for one of my ideas. I know that I have the ambition and diligence necessary to make this dream a reality. After my Bachelor’s degree, I plan on pursuing my Master’s and ultimately, a PhD. My life in academia doesn’t stop there, as I plan on pursuing a post-doc study as well. I want to dedicate my life to learning physics because it is the most soul enriching discipline known to mankind. The creation of new ideas as well as the improvement of others demonstrates the beautiful cycle of technological advancement; I want be a part of this process and become one of tomorrow’s leading innovators. I already have experience working in a laboratory environment and have also gotten the chance to see real professional scientists in action. This experience will help me fit right in to a research position at York. While working as a lab assistant at the Ministry of Environment, the technicians helped me learn a lot about how the various instruments worked. These included chromatographs, colorimeters and mass spectrometers. I really enjoyed learning about these machines because, in essence, they work by manipulating the physical properties of matter at a very small scale. I find it amazing how we are able to measure and influence such small quantities of matter. Most of my work involved organizing, disposing and preparing samples, as well as entering data retrieved from the...
