The Miraculous Properties of the Fig

[I swear] by the fig and the olive. (Qur'an, 95:1)

Sahih al-Bukhari records Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stating: 
"If I had to mention a fruit that descended from paradise, I would say this is it because the paradisiacal fruits do not have pits...eat from these fruits for they prevent haemorrhoids, prevent piles and help gout."

So let’s discuss the benefits of figs, throughout the years figs have been used as a remedy for everything from constipation, gangrene and boils to scurvy, cancer and haemorrhoids.

From a medical background i can purport that figs are known to be an energizing health tonic, they act as a natural laxative, aid digestion, help to relieve the symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), help to fight cancer and the juice kills roundworms and bacteria

Japanese scientists have isolated an anti-cancer chemical contained in figs called ‘benzaldehyde’, which is used to treat advanced cancer patients. Other researchers have isolated enzymes known as ‘ficins’ in figs, which aids digestion. The high fibre in figs makes them a perfect natural laxative. Fibre also makes you feel full, so eating figs is said to prevent over-eating.

Figs also contain a small amount of Vitamin B6, said to help relieve pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS).

Let us now look at some specific benefits of figs for certain conditions.

Health benefits of the fig for diabetic patients

The American Diabetes Association recommends figs for a high fibre treat. Fig leaves reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetic patients who have to take insulin injection. Fig is rich in Potassium. Potassium helps to control blood sugar. Fig leaves have anti-diabetic properties

Figs help Lower cholesterol.

Figs contain Pectin, a soluble fibre. When fibre goes through the digestive system, it mops up globes of cholesterol and carries them out of body.

Figs prevent coronary heart disease.
