The Lottery

The Lottery is a book written by Shirley Jackson. Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco, Ca on December 14, 1916.She deceased years later on August 8,1965.Ms Jackson was an influential novelist of the 20th century, and is widely known for her stories and novels of the supernatural. I chose ‘The Lottery’ to write about because she is a female who I thought was an African American.

The Lottery is a very informal story. I consider the story informal, because it’s appropriate to everyday life. Part of the story let me know it can happen anywhere. For example “The villagers began gathering in the square of the town”. Then you have a gentleman who hosts all the city events as well as the lottery.

          The main character of the story is Mr. Summers.Mr.Summers is a very good character; he was a very well rounded gentleman who dedicated himself to the town duties. The story is about a gathering of city residents having an opportunity to win at the lottery. The story takes place with residents pulling out of a black box, determining which family would be the main lottery picker. The beginning of the story starts out on a nice summer day, while the ending resulted in bickering and arguing because other villager’s opinion of the process was completed incorrect.

The Lottery was a very interesting story to which I’m glad it was short. This story was not anything I cared for nor will I read again. I’m more of a romance novel reader and this is more of a fun possible funny if it were an actual book story. Shirley Jackson is a very good novelist, but this is the first item I’ve read by the writer.Ms.Jackson would not be an author I would pick up without it being an project.

The assignment was very interesting. I would’ve loved to enjoy it more if it were a paperback that I like. The reading process for short stories is a lot easier then an actual full book report. Short summary is a lot of repeating your work. The assignment... [continues]
