First of all, the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The man responsible for its rebirth was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Today, the Olympic Games are the world's largest pageant of athletic skill and competitive spirit.  The Games are held every four years in a different city and in 2012 London will be hosting the Games. London hosted the Olympic games previously in 1908 and 1948 and the upcoming games will make London the only city in the world to have hosted the Games three times. The Olympic Games are the best opportunity to introduce the UK as an attractive tourist image of the country billions of people.   In 2012 tourism to London could be one of the most important beneficiaries of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and also offer a huge opportunity to showcase Britain to the world and to boost the country’s tourism industry before, during and after the games. Secondly, the city is expecting to attract more tourists at the time of Olympics. With up to 350,000 foreign visitors predicted per day during the Olympics. 1 million "extra" visitors coming to the UK for the games. It presents the good opportunities for travel operators to offer the packaged deals of hotels, flights and Olympic tickets. The games will provide an unparalleled opportunity to put the UK hospitality industry in the shop window. The incredible worldwide focus on the country brought about by the games will not just bring in almost a million visitors during the event but will leave a lasting impression on potential visitors that can boost business for years to come. It is also important that the tourism industry communicates to potential business visitors and non-Games tourists that London will remain open and welcoming during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as at other times.
