The Life and History of Well-Known American Serial Killer, Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer
Jeffery Lionel Dahmer is a well-known American serial killer who murdered 17 boys and men from 1988 until July 22, 1991 when he was arrested in Millwaukee. His nicknames were "Milkwaukee Monster" and "Milwaukee Cannibal", which was quite suiting considering his chosen methods of murder. (Apa-voices.yahoo) There are a lot of suspected theories as to why Dahmer raped, murdered, dismembered, and ate his victims. Some people believe that he was angry and ashamed that he was homosexual; some believe that he committed these crimes because he was mentally insane while others such as myself find it completely unexplainable.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s trial began after he pleaded guilty to 15 counts of murder. Dahmer pleading guilty meant he did not have to have an initial trial to establish guilt, but instead he had a trial to determine if he was insane. This trial took place in the Wisconsin Circuit Court and lasted a total of two weeks. The defense was claiming that because of Jeffrey Dahmer’s mental instability he could not help himself when it came to his impulses. The prosecution argued that even if he was insane, that his insanity did not affect his decisions to murder people. The case ended with Dahmer being ruled as sane and not having any mental disorder when he committed each of the 15 murders.…

Most crimes that are committed during the normal daily activities of people’s lives is indicative of the Routine Activities Theory that gives insight onto how Jeffrey Dahmer was so successful in luring, raping, and murdering unsuspecting men from the local gay nightclubs in Milwaukee. Jeffrey Dahmer had willingness and the ability to commit such heinous predatory crimes. He was motivated by a strong sexual desire for sexual gratification that deviated from the norm, evident by his method of killings and the amount of times these acts occurred. Dahmer never used aggression in the commission of his crimes but rather a method of attack that would con his victims into lowering their guard making them main targets for him. Dahmer’s primary targets were drifters, locals, and prostitutes often exchanging alcohol and money for sexual favors. This can be the sole reason why so many men became Dahmer’s victim because he targeted individuals who would voluntarily leave with him. As stated in the biography Dahmer’s hot-spot for possible targets revolved around the gay-night clubs depicted in the film catered to Dahmer’s sexual preferences. Typically in the night-club scenario possible targets for violence are typically females making males not likely to be subjective to violence and as an onlooker in a club setting it is difficult to differentiate the victim from the assailant in a gay male couple. Dahmer’s character towards his victims was very routine and cunning making his victims typically prostitutes and locals susceptible to his method of persuasion. His targets were individuals who were easily persuaded by money and their non-awareness towards a possible harmful target made them even more likely to become one of his many victims. It is reasonable to infer that an individual could have decreased their chances of victimization if they were more self- conscious and aware of the situation they were putting themselves into and not so trustworthy of a complete stranger.…

Jeffrey was not very popular in high school. He played the clarinet, tennis, and wrote for the school paper. He also had a history of alcohol abuse, which will continue for the rest of life. A classmate recalls Jeffrey drinking cups of scotch at his desk. Though unpopular, he was known for a lot of pranks including bleating like a sheep, shouting out things at strange times, and faking epileptic fits. In addition around age fourteen, his compulsions in regard to necrophilia and murder began. Dahmer claims that, “around age fourteen or fifteen, I started to have obsessive thoughts of violence intermingled with sex.” Throughout high school, he continued to collect dead animals. Jeffrey remembers in ninth grade during a biology class, “…we had the usual dissection of a fetal pig. I took that ham and kept the skeleton and I just started branching out to dogs,…

Increasing more than ever, American society is fascinated with serial and mass murderers. Throughout the decades, people have celebrated killers who have reached the peak of success within their field by glorifying them in movies, documentaries, magazines, and even on trading cards. In 1991, a trading card company in California created its first mass and serial card collection, which included notorious murderers such as Jeffrey Dahmer who killed 17 men between 1978 and 1991. Dahmer was known to have sex with the corpses of his victims, kept body parts of others, and ate some of the parts as well. Eventually, Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms and was killed in prison in 1994. . Television programs have also increased people’s fascination with serial and mass murderers by creating documentaries and mini series about them. Many popular actresses and actors who play serial and mass killers in movies unfortunately infuse these murderers with humanity and attraction (Fox & Levin, 2005). In this unit we look at the differences between serial killing and mass killing and investigate some of the motives that are behind the predominantly white middle class males who commit some of the most gruesome and legendary volume killing of other humans.…

Jeffery was born on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Damher 's childhood was fairly normal. His mother Joyce had some psychological problems, but he had a loving father who tried to be communicative with his quiet and isolated son. His fascination with death started at a young age by playing with the bones of dead animals.…

When I was a little kid I was just like anybody else. I was born in Milwaukee in May 21, 1960, the son of Lionel and Joyce Dahmer. At the age of six after some minor surgery, which coincided with the birth of my brother, there seemed to be a change in me. At the time a career opportunity for my father resulted in my family moving from Iowa to Ohio. I don’t know why it started. I don’t have any definite answers on that myself. If I knew the true, real reasons why all this started, before it ever did, I wouldn’t probably have done any of it. Though the thoughts were like arrows, shooting through my mind from out of the blue. By the time I was fourteen the compulsions to murder and necrophilia began to occur.…

Jeffery Dahmer was born to Joyce Annette and Lionel Herbert Dahmer, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 21, 1960. He led a pretty normal childhood, until the age of 10, when his parents noticed he began to become withdrawn from the world around him. Socially he was inept and was extremely shy and awkward. Upon their observations, his parents tried to force Jeffery into interaction with other children, but this did not aid him. Jeffery, however, took an interest in animals from an early age, and he lovingly took care of his family’s dog. In his teen years, however, he began to become intrigued with their inner-workings and took dead animals off the side of the road and dissected them in the forest behind his house in secret. Around the age of 14 or 15, Dahmer later claimed that he began to have sexual fantasies intermingled with his grim dissections of these animals. His father believed his nature as a serial killer was a result of him going through puberty and developing his intrigue and love to kill simultaneously, eventually mixing together to create a sadistic love for murdering. As he got older, his fantasies grew stronger and more focused. He devised a plan to knock out a daily jogger and lie next to him. When the jogger did not show up the next day on his daily route, Dahmer decided not to attempt it a second time. For the most…
