The Key to a Successful Web Design
Web Design The key to a successful web design are websites that load quickly, are aesthetically appealing, have a keyword based search feature, have a clear statement of purpose, and regularly updated content. When it comes to large scale shopping websites, examples of serious web designs include Walmart.com, Target.com, and ToysRus.com. To start with, Walmart.com loads with express speed, displaying a navy blue banner with a category-keyword based search feature and a chalky white background underlying updated content, store events and seasonal sales. The purpose of Walmart.com is simply understood after a few seconds of glimpsing over the category tabs and once you look through the homepage, you 'll discover special sales and promotions. Walmart.com has a well-timed slide show of store sales and events, but overall the site lacks in remarkable design and enthusiastic color. Next, ToysRUs.com loads fairly quickly and smoothly. The web site 's design upholds a royal blue banner with a convenient keyword based search feature. Followed by a clear white background with festive multicolored stars surrounding their updated content of seasonal and weekly sales. The purpose of the site is clearly stated with advertisements of children playing with toys, slide shows of daily deals and coupons, as well as extra links to common inquires such as Layaway, price matching, and job opportunities. The site 's design is charming and well presented, but has a fair amount of content slowing down the loading time. Finally, entering Target.com was a fast and speedy process. The first thing noticed is Target 's fresh bold red headline displaying the store 's shopping categories, a category-keyword based search feature, and clearance merchandise, just to name a few. A clean, colorless background holds the site 's updated content with seasonal sales and one-day sales. Target.com

The first component of Wal-Mart is business commerce. Business commerce is when Wal-Mart exchange good and services with other businesses. For example, Wal-Mart has a hair salon service; I love to get my hair done every other week. Also, many Wal-Marts provide banking services and some fast food services. Wal-Mart has stock trades also. Another main component of Wal-Mart is business occupation. Business occupation is the acquired set of specialized skills and abilities that allows Wal-Mart to create valuable goods and services. When my husband started at Wal-Mart he had to undergo several trainings to ensure that he understands the business and also that he provides customers with excellent services. Wal-Mart provides thorough training to its employees so that they can keep the customers coming back. Customers always value great customer service. I think this is one way Wal-Mart remains ahead of its competitors. The last main component of Wal-Mart is business organization. Business organization is the system of task and authority relationship which coordinates and controls the interactions between people so that they work toward a common goal. Wal-Mart’s common goal is to provide low prices. They try to provide lower prices than their competitors. They are about saving their customers money. They have reduced the costs of their retail and other products in the store. There are many Wal-Marts around the world and they provide the same services in all of them. I love Wal-Mart and I agree that they have prices lower than many other retailers. I definitely agree with their slogan, it is so true. “Save money, Live better”.…

I chose the website www.amazon.com for examples, using the six design principles which are layout, content awareness, aesthetics, user experience, consistency, minimize user effort. The layout I think is consistent for different purposes, the search navigation is right at the top easy to find and the other departments are listed on the left. Content awareness is easily read the information is displayed at the top of the page for each department plus each individual item. Aesthetics are good on the website, interfaces are functional, good use of white space, colors and fonts, it’s not to overcrowded to where you don’t know what to look at first. User experience, the website is easy to use and easy to learn, after shopping frequently and logged in, also has the items you’ve looked at and might be interested in listed for you. Consistency, the interface design is usually the same when I check out the website, making it easier to navigate because I don’t have to relearn how to use the site. Minimize user effort, the interface is simple to use and easy to read, the layout is easy to navigate, spaced out so its not too overcrowded.…

One of the first web sites that comes to mind when I think of exemplary design features is the Blizzard website and IGN website. One of the first design features on that website that comes to mind is the easy of finding the information you are looking for. The top menu tabs helps a user find the area of information they need, and the submenus within those tabs helps break down what you need even further. Another great design feature is the coloration and overall appearance of the website. The colors are vibrant, don’t clash, and are easy on the eyes. The lack of large overwhelming blocks of information are also not present. These kinds of designs are used by competitors and other similar sites catering to gamers. I believe that the design features are intended both for visual appearance as well as promoting usability. Usability can be determined by how easy it is for a user to get onto the page, and find the information they need. Both websites have great visual appearances and usability for the user. You don’t have to spend long searching for the information or area of the website you need. It’s straight forward and allows the user to reach the information they need. This in turn helps promote repeated use of the website.…
