Lottie Heslop 7u Côte d’Ivoire Ivory Coast is located on the south coast of West Africa. It is bound by Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north, Ghana to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Côte d’Ivoire, also known as the Ivory Coast or officially the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, is a country known for it's cocoa production. The exact coordinates are 6.8500° N, 5.3000° W. It's poulation is 20.6 million people. The southern Ivory Coast forest is a typical rain forest; it has a canopy at around 21–24 m, with isolated trees pushing up above 37 m. Farther north, the rain forest gives way to scattered deciduous trees, and mahogany is widespread. The jackal, hyena, panther, elephant, hippopotamus, numerous monkeys, and many other mammals are very common in this area. Crocodiles and chameleons, as well as venomous serpents (horned vipers, mambas, and many others) and pythons, are numerous. Among indigenous birds are vultures, cranes, pigeons, turtle doves, parrots, and herons. Venomous spiders and scorpions thrive. As of 2002, there were at least 230 species of mammals, 252 species of birds, and over 3,600 species of plants throughout the country. Commercial agriculture employs over half the labour force in Ivory Coast; over a quarter (around 6 million Ivorians) are involved in growing cocoa beans (the country’s main export). Coffee and cotton producers also employ many workers. Coconut, palm and pineapples are increasingly important in employment terms. These crops provide jobs in processing plants (producing palm and coconut oils and soap) and canning facilities. The capital of the Ivory Coast is Yamoussoukro and the largest cities, in order of ranking in size, are: Abidjan, Abobo, Bouaké, Daloa, San-Pédro, Yamoussoukro, Korhogo, Man, Divo and Gagnoa. In past centuries, Angola was among the areas most-devastated by the slave trade. In recent decades, it has been afflicted with wars. However, in both eras, much of the violence was driven by powerful external forces. This is because Angola, with an abundance of oil and other resources, could develop into a very prosperous country if led and controlled by the right power. In 1975 Angola was released from colonialism by Portugal. This pivotal event in history sparked the beginning of a massive conflict between many of the key players in world power. These key players included the United States, Cuba, China, and the Soviet Union.…

In countries like Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, and Mali children are sent away from their families to cocoa farms in exchange for promised money and other useful items for their family. Families will “send their children to work”, or basically sell, them for promised goods that are usually never received. Even though it is not slavery, there are still many moral problems with the cocoa farming. The children work long hours, in dangerous conditions, for usually nothing more than a bed to sleep in and minimal food to eat. Children from these poor countries are sent to The Ivory Coast in search of skills that will help them in life or help their family, but most of the time they are just taken advantage of. Cocoa farming in The Ivory coast is morally and ethically wrong because the children are taken advantage of and they are forced into a type of “slavery”…

Central Africa has been inhabited by people for over 8000 years. The population of the early Africans remained low because of a limited food supply. As they started to have more advanced farming the population grew. In the 15th and 16th century Europeans started to make written records of what was happening in Central Africa. The first really significant form of outsider interference in the country started when the Arab slave trade began in the 1600s. It lasted until the late 19th century. The next significant form of outsider interference was foreign control of the country through imperialism and, today, foreign influence through foreign aid and trade (O'Toole, T. 1941).…
