All people were born with rights especially the children. But some people have violated their rights through child labor. Child labor has been around for long time and it still exists in today’s world. Child labor is defined as an employment of children who are less than 18 years old. This practice is considered as exploitative and illegal in the Philippines and also in different international organizations. In the Philippines one of every six children is working illegally. Underage children are being forced to manual labor to help their families. Poverty is the main reason due to which children under the age of 18 years are compelled to work in dangerous and life threatening conditions. Labor has many ill effects in children who are supposed in the environment of a classroom rather than roaming the streets to earn money. Because of increasing population of child labourer the government established the National Child Labor Program Committee in 1992 to provide policy and technical assistance on child labor (Del Rosario, R. and Melinda Bonga. 2000). Despite of implementing the rules a lot of children are still working. This problem needs fully attention, not only in the government but also the Filipino people in order to make this problem solved. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The goal of this study is to know the intellectual effect on children working in Quiapo. We made a set of questions and conduct an interview to them. Our questions are like this: * How many hours do you work?
* Why did you choose to work rather than study at school? * Do you think that poverty is the main reason why you really have to work? * Do you know that working at a very young age can be dangerous to your health and safety? SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The study focuses on the intellectual effects of working among child laborers. The study will be conducted in Quiapo Church in Manila. The study involves a field-work, interviews on the children and observations of their activities that may contribute to their existing problem. The study aims to lower the numbers of children who are working on the streets rather than going to school. The selection of respondents are only limited to the children who are working in the vicinity of Quiapo Church. This will be conducted only for a month on March 2012. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
