BAP205.1 Case Study 1

Why is so important the acoustic in the sound? Sound is the sensation produced through the ear to the brain and the physical cause is determined. This causes the vibrations of an elastic medium (usually air). These vibrations are produced by movement of air molecules due to the action of external pressure. Each molecule transmits the vibration to which there beside provoking a movement chain. The acoustic measures the sound, and all the sound we hear is the result of these shifts. It is transmitted in waves, and depends on the characteristics of these movements. The purpose of the case study 1 is to identify and analyze the frequency response in two different control rooms (TOFT & Eurodesk) . In these record studios there was different impulses for both sides, left and right loudspeakers respectively. The idea is to recognize the different type of materials, dimensions and acoustic treatments in the control room.

First of all, identify the high and low frequency response in a small room like a Toft and the different modal frequencies can vary depending on which microphone and loudspeakers use. However, in this case a AKG C414 microphone was used for the measurement and how the environment of the control room affected the sound. Behind the Toft there is a small diffuser in the middle of the room. The acoustical treatment in this case in a small space with a diffuser can help with a diffraction spread the sound around of the source.
