Both stories have mind blowing experiences. Tessie throwing a fit about her husband drawing the slip, then her getting it when they each draw one, and Katniss was fighting for survival in the arena. They also have similar plots, for they both are fighting and searching for their life. These two books are alike because the main characters both cared for their friends and family and didn't want them to suffer. Katniss didn't want Prim to suffer through the Hunger Games, and Tessie didn't want her family to either.
Another similarity is rituals; they each have rituals they complete annually. In The Hunger Games they sacrifice two people from each district (1-13) to remind the towns people about the rebellion and how they sacrificed two people from each district, and they take place in the Hunger Games. They go to capitol and train for about 2 weeks, then go in the arena trying to be the last one left, until they made the rule two people from the same district can live but if they are from different districts one of them will be killed. In “The Lottery” they have an annual sacrifice for a good harvest. What they do is they put a slip of paper in a box for every member of the town and one of the slips will have a black dot and who ever draws that slip will have their family draw a slip hoping the black dotted slip...
