Book Report

The book I have been reading is the House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros published in (1984). It is about a seven year old girl who thinks that boys and girls come from two different worlds. From the time Esperanza was a child to the time she became a young adult that she is now she went through three major life changing events that changed her point of sexuality. By trying to get boys attention, getting sexually assaulted, and how she is trying to forget about her past and focus on writing.             Esperanza is not quite ready to emerge from the asexuality of her childhood. As a little girl Esperanza is really mean and ignorant about sex as she says boys and girls live in two different worlds. As she grows up she starts to act so immature because outside of her house she never talks to or acknowledges her brother. When she is young she does talk to any boys other then her brother or father. The only time she will talk to them is when she is inside her house or if her father is asking her to go do something for him.     As Esperanza starts to become a young women she thinks she needs to try new things and by new things she meant by getting young men's attentions. First she tried to experiment by her and her two best friends going to the store and buying high-heels. When they bought them they decided to walk around the neighborhood and see what the boys would say. The boys would say that they looked beautiful, pretty even gorgeous. Esperanza loved all the attention...
