Plus they didn’t even bother to wake him up and say thank you. Bilbo surprising felt a little disappointed for missing out on a great adventure. 2. Bilbo finds out that the dwarves are waiting for him when Gandalf shows up at his door and directs him to the letter under the clock on the mantelpiece that was left by the dwarves. 3. They all were miserable because they were wet and cold from the rain, they were hungry because they had little food and they hadn’t started a fire yet. 6. “Soon the goblins had a ring of smoke and flame all round the dwarves, a ring which they kept from spreading outwards; but it closed slowly until the running fire was licking the fuel piled under the trees. Smoke was in Bilbo’s eyes, he could feel the heat of the flames( even though he was so high up in the trees); and through the reek he could see the goblins dancing round and round in a circle like people round a midsummer bonfire. Outside the ring of dancing warriors stood the wolves at a respectful distance watching and waiting to devour the first person that dropped dead out of the treetops. Bilbo could hear the goblins beginning a horrible song, and with that the flames were under Gandalf the wizards tree. In a moment it caught the others and went up like a rocket, when it was just beneath Bilbo’s, he closed his eyes, ready to die when...” As it can be seen Biblo and company were in many tight spots throughout this adventure, and he could not have done it all on his own. That is where Bilbo had to use the three themes of luck, courage and good sense to overcome evil and stay alive.…

In support of this, in the novel, it states how Bilbo kept a secret from Thorin of the Arkenstone he had stolen. He sneakily traded with Bard, knowing that Thorin was not a fan of sharing gold, which Bilbo felt that him and the dwarves deserved. He did not know the Battle of Five Armies would become a result of his sly moves (Tolkien). This highlights how Bilbo made a sacrifice and put his friendship on the line with this betrayal and lie. Bilbo develops as a hero because he believes of the greater good and depends on his own morals, trying his best to avoid conflict. This time, instead of relying on his usual group, like he would have, he ignores the view of others and stands up for himself and his morals. Middle Earth was impacted by his actions since Bilbo now uses his traits of being a burglar in hand and changes himself with strategies. Overall, Baggins was in a difficult position, but the way he was able to escape shows how he has improved from old, scared, Hobbit-Hole Bilbo to a one of a kind…

By the end of this expedition, he will have changed almost everything about him and how he lives everyday life. At the beginning of the story, Bilbo was kind, but was also extremely contempt with his way of life. He wanted nothing more than to “ eat meals six times a day” (Tolkien 5). But by the end of the expedition he had learned to make it through with what he has; and to also put himself in danger for the sake of others “killing of the giant spider, all alone by himself in the dark”( Tolkien 135). By defeating the giant spider he showed to himself and others that he is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. Therefore showing that the expedition in its entirety has changed him…

Everyone has a chapter in their life they don't read aloud, maybe it's just dark and too deep to get into. We all have a dark side, even the heros and the good guys. In fact there's this hero, Bilbo, who has a dark side of his own. There are many protagonists and antagonists in The Hobbit, but let's face it, the only real problem and solution is the main character, Bilbo himself. Bilbo is not only the main character in The Hobbit, but also is his own protagonist and antagonist. Throughout the book, there are multiple ways all these sides of Bilbo are shown; the attack from the spiders, escaping the goblins, and helping the dwarves. All of these examples, include one important item, the magical ring.…

Bilbo was sent by the dwarves to investigate a strange fire in the forest, quietly. When he reached the fire, he saw it was three very large persons sitting around a very large fire of beech-logs, they were trolls. At this point Bilbo had the chance to have gone back quietly and warned his friends about the trolls but he felt the need to do a bit of good quick burgling to impress the dwarves. “He wished himself a hundred miles away-yet somehow he could not go straight back to Thorin and Company emptyhanded.” But not all ended well for poor Mr. Baggins’ as it took Gandalf to save Bilbo and the dwarves from the…

In this ISP, I will demonstrate that the character Bilbo Baggins, in fact, evolved into a hero throughout the novel. I will try and prove this tentative thesis by using specific examples from the novel where Bilbo shows acts of heroism. I will also go through different stages of Bilbo becoming a hero. In doing this, I hope to show that Bilbo does become a hero. Also I want to show that Bilbo may not be the “classic” hero, where strength is measured by the might of his sword, but he is a hero in courage, and intelligence, but most importantly his loyalty to his friends.…

Starting out on a new adventure was different for this hobbit, not only different but foreign. Mr. Baggins starts this tale not even interested in Gandalf's plan. Bilbo does not travel at all, or at least not as much as this journey was calling for. To set out in this journey he was going to have to face an unheard of danger, something he would eventually become accustomed to throughout the novel.…

The first three chapters reveal Bilbo’s “ordinary world”, how he is comfortable and relaxed with his same old life, then the “call to adventure”, when Gandalf shows up and asks Bilbo for his help and Bilbo’s “refusal of the call”, and “meeting with the mentor” was when all the dwarves and Gandalf took over Bilbo’s house, then the morning after the “crossing the first threshold” is revealed when Bilbo leaves his house and town accompanying the dwarves into the new mysterious world.…
