The Story Of The Family Of Ferrero Rocher
The great leader of the Group’s development is Michele Ferrero. With the desire to make and create new products with state-of-the-art ideas, he has revolutionized the food habits of millions of consumers.Thanks to his consistent and efficient partnership with his wife Maria Franca, he was the first Italian manufacturer after World War II to open production sites and offices abroad in the confectionary sector, turning the Company into a truly international Group.We have to return to the ‘40s to discover the roots of this success. These were the years when Piera and Pietro, Michele’s parents, transformed a pastry shop into a factory.These first and decisive steps forward were thanks to the products “invented” by Pietro Ferrero and his son Michele, who was then very young. Another key to success was the effective sales network organized by Giovanni, Pietro’s brother, who died in 1949. And now Ferrero’s story has reached the third generation. Pietro and Giovanni Ferrero, sons of Michele and Maria Franca, worked together at the top of the Group as Managing Directors for more than 10 years. In April 2011, Pietro Ferrero tragically died in South Africa while working on a humanitarian mission, inspired and driven by him, that aimed to relaunch the Ferrero Social Enterprises.Today, Giovanni Ferrero continues to run the Company successfully, aiming to reach even more ambitious goals and ensuring that the company inspiration and motivation that was so strongly shared with his parents and his brother. In the 1940's Pietro Ferrero had a dream. The gifted Italian confectioner wanted to bring fine chocolates to the world. First, though, he needed to change the way his countrymen bought chocolates. In 1946, Pietro began to do just that. At the time, confections, cake and pastries were reserved only for special occasions, and even then Italian consumers chose products from small manufacturers and local pastry shops. Pietro's vision went far beyond these confines. He wanted to create original premium candies and make them widely available at affordable prices. The Ferrero Timeline

Pietro Ferrero begins to fulfill his dream of selling fine chocolates to the masses by opening his laboratory in Alba. Some of his first products are made with base ingredients of hazelnut and cocoa. 1946

Ferrero begins industrial production and is recognized as an official company by the Italian Department of Commerce. 1950 - 1970
Ferrero develops a wide variety of confections that are sold first in Italy and other European countries, then to other countries throughout the world. Among the brands that are launched in this period are Nutella® hazelnut spread, Kinder® chocolates and Tic Tac® mints. 1982

The Ferrero Rocher® brand is launched and is sold in various European countries. Ferrero Rocher® grows in popularity throughout the decade as the brand becomes known for its distinctive gold foil wrapper, unique premium packaging and high quality hazelnut chocolates. 1985

Ferrero Rocher® chocolates are first distributed regionally in the United States. 1988
Ferrero Rocher® chocolates are launched nationally in the United States. Over the next several years the brand grows into a premium chocolate category leader. 2000 - 2006
Rocher® continues to attract new consumers nationwide with its high quality premium image and "Fine Hazelnut Chocolates." In 2001, the Ferrero Prestige brand is launched in the US to introduce a wider assortment of Ferrero confections to a growing premium chocolate category. 2007
