The Effects of the “Great Depression” on Business Marketing in
Comparison with Today’s Advertisement Strategies

The “Great Depression” was one of the hardest economic times for America.   Businesses went out of business, some people lost their fortunes, and jobs were extremely hard to find!   Businessmen who wanted to keep their customers as well as their businesses; had to come up with marketing strategies that would encourage the average citizen to spend their money on their products, even in hard times.    
Today with our suffering economy,   job openings, foreclosures on homes and businesses, it is normal to find the average working person unable to meet the demands of everyday living.   One example of businesses reaching out to the consumer is the $1, $5, and 2 for $20 meals at restaurants.   These meals make it affordable for customers to purchase them on a limited household income.   Targeted advertisement campaigns are now trying to reach out to all consumers on and off the internet.
The United States Economy was the most respected nation in free enterprise.   Due to the steady decline in value of our United States Currency, loyal customers now get less for the same amount spent on necessities in previous years. This research will show the differences and similarities of the “Great Depression, and our current declining economy.   Also research will show the importance of marketing to obtain new customers and to retain loyal customers.

Businesses need to look back over prior spending trends and marketing strategies if they are striving to stay in business, and keep their customers.

Marketing is one way to make sure that products are what the consumer wants and is willing to purchase goods for sale.
