The global economy considers China as the future. The appeal of China's unique scale of low cost manufacturing is slowly being matched and passed by the growing development of the Chinese consumer. The Chinese Language
Chinese is a family of closely-related but mutually incomprehensible languages. These languages are known variously as regional languages, dialects of Chinese or varieties of Chinese.
Chinese Society & Culture
“Face” has important meaning to Chinese. “Face” means honor, good reputation or respect. It is critical that Chinese avoid losing face or causing the loss of face at all times. Confucianism is a system of behaviors and ethics that describe the obligations of people towards one another based upon their relationship. Confucianism shows duty, sincerity, loyalty, honor, filial piety, respect for age and seniority. In general, the Chinese are a collective society with a need for group affiliation. In order to maintain a sense of harmony, they will act with decorum at all times and will not do anything to cause someone else public embarrassment. Since the Chinese make every effort for harmony and are group dependent, they rely on facial expression, tone of voice and posture to tell them what someone feels.
Management Style
Chinese management is perceived as a human-centered management style, emphasizing human relationship (Warrington and McCall 1983; Sheng 1979; and Menkhoff 1993). Any management decisions have to take emotion into consideration. Highly associated with concern for feelings and respect of relationships is the concept of "face" (Redding and Ng 1982).
