The Gettysburg Address
In the beginning of The Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln stated that this nation is founded on the principle that all men are created equal. His speech revolves around the idea that we should not consecrate this battlefield but make certain that the great loss of lives is made worthwhile by creating massive reforms in the government so it fights for the wellbeing of all people.

The Gettysburg Address is similar to Letter from Birmingham Jail in that both of them are advocating for equal rights for all people.

On Being the Object of Property
Williams gives us an insight into the laws and biased assumptions of our society. She brings out many of her arguments with detailed anecdotes and stories. She uses examples of prejudice and stereotypes ranging from the period of slavery to modern time. She emphasized on the misconception that people of color are less capable of embodying and exercising their own element of pure will which is what makes people "noble" nowadays. She explains the conflicts in our society with taboos to show the irony of slavery.

On Being the Object of Property is similar to Letter from Birmingham Jail in that both of them are trying to make a social commentary.

Understanding Natural Selection
Darwin explains in Understanding Natural Selection, that variations within a species can endure in harsh conditions or enhance the survival of the animal race. When a variation is gained through genetic mutation the trait that it gained gives it an edge in competing for survival and attracting mates will be the determining factor of the survival of this new variation. The better adapted race will increase in population and overtake the existing less apt species.

Understanding Natural Selection is similar to On Being the Object of Property in that Williams mentions how her mother said there is the blood of a lawyer in her which will make her better equipped to face challenges in the area of law.
