The Fortune 500 is a list of companies that comes out every year that rates the top 500 cooperation’s based on their gross revenue. One of such companies is Winn-Dixie Stores. Winn-Dixie was founded in 1914 from a general store in Idaho by William Davis. Before Winn-Dixie became what it is known as today, it was widely known as Winn-Lovett. Winn-Lovett began to offer larger selections of food at lower prices, in order to compete with the growing number of cash only grocery stores. The number of Winn-Lovett stores expanded to 73 stores by 1939, and at that time was owned by Davis’ sons. They continued to flourish throughout the years and in 1955 became Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie is still a widely known grocery store today and offers not just groceries but cosmetics, animal products, pharmaceuticals, and many outdoor products as well. Because of its impact on the community and its need to “get better all the time” Winn-Dixie has found itself on the famous Fortune 500 list numerous times. In 2011, Winn-Dixie was 324 on the Fortune 500 list. Winn-Dixie’s main branch is in Jacksonville Florida and has been there for many years. According to the Fortune 500 list, Winn-Dixie stores have had $7.2 million in revenue from 2010 to 2011. Statewide, Winn-Dixie scored 3.5 overall and a 10 with their grocery and drugstore departments. Winn-Dixie deserves a 10 for their grocery department for their excellent customer service and their quality of their store brand products. An example would be their famous Check Brand soda. This soda is available in many different flavors including diet and caffeine free. Check soda is an affordable soft drink for the way that it is acquired. Many name brand vendors such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi make their own product and offer a certain percentage of their product at a discount price to Winn-Dixie.
