The following essay will discuss Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was both a great man and a hero. His heroic contributions include the preservation of the union, the vindication of democracy and the death of slavery. Abraham Lincoln was a man of humble beginnings. He was the son of poor American farmers, who worked his way through American politics to become one of America’s greatest leaders but his contribution to the death of slavery not only made him an American hero, but a hero to all. Abraham Lincoln, was a great leader who came from humble beginnings. His father was a farmer. He was very different than his father because he liked to read, and was determined to be successful. This often lead to conflict between the two. Abraham Lincoln was a great hero because he demonstrated personal characteristics like leadership, and perserverance. He had to work very hard to become a great lawyer and then president of the United States. He had to have determination to fight for a cause that others did not agree with. His motto “I walk slowly, but I don’t walk backwards”, shows his determination and commitment. One of Lincoln’s greatest contribution’s was the preservation of the Union (United States). The civil war was a conflict between the Northern States and the Southern States over issues like taxation, tariffs, laws, military and slavery. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States. His major contribution was to unite both the northern and southern states. As a Hero, he brought an end to a vicious battle that lasted four years and killed 600,000 men. The second contribution that Lincoln made, was to abolish slavery. He did this as part of his act to end the civil war. The civil war started as an attempt to end the fighting between the North and South, but in the end lead to the victory to free black slaves within the confederate states. Lincoln accomplished this by issuing the Immancipation Proclamation in 1868.
