1. RESUMEN EJECUTIVO

Nike es la marca número uno en la fabricación y comercialización de calzado, accesorios e indumentaria deportiva a nivel mundial. Nike de Chile ha hecho lo propio, y ha consolidado la marca como la número uno en el país. Con un alto reconocimiento a la marca, participación de mercado y ventas en ascenso, la compañía ha decidido lanzar en Chile la nueva Air Prefontaine. Steve Prefontaine, encarna el alma misma de la compañía, joven corredor de distancia, poseedor de multiples récords a nivel nacional e internacional, vió truncada su carrera en el deporte de las pistas, pues fallece en un accidente automovilístico a la edad de 24 años. Hoy, al cumplirse 25 años de la muerte del jóven Prefontaine, Nike desarrolla una zapatilla para homenajear al gran atleta de Oregon.
Los avances tecnológicos, y el más profundo compromiso de la marca con el desarrollo del deporte, y mejora de los rendimientos de los atletas, hacen posible el nacimiento de la Air Prefontaine, una zapatilla de última generación, inspirada por las necesidades de cientos de atletas, cuya única meta es mejorar sus tiempos en competencia, Air Prefontaine, es la zapatilla más liviana del mercado, al tiempo de poseer el mejor sistema de amortiguación del mundo, Nike Air.
Para Nike de Chile, este lanzamiento significa no sólo el cumplimiento de un sueño corporativo, pero un gran avance en el desarrollo de los mercados específicos del deporte en Chile, la Air Prefontaine, vendrá a consolidar el liderazgo de la marca en los segmentos específicos preferidos por los deportistas de alto rendimiento en este país, y que ven a Nike como una marca comprometida con sus necesidades de ser cada día mejor, de correr cada vez mas rápido, en una carrera contra si mismo , en la exploración de sus propios límites.

    Decision to Be Made The management team for The Fashion Channel (TFC) must decide which customer segment(s) or “cluster” they should target in their new marketing strategy and how they should position TFC to ultimately increase company revenue. When deciding their marketing strategy, TFC must consider how they can increase their share of the market (ratings) versus the increasingly competitive fashion programming on CNN and Lifetime, and if they can maintain or increase TFC’s satisfaction level among the Large Multi-System Operators. According to Dana Wheeler, senior vice president of marketing for TFC, “the two key levers to drive revenue growth would be (1) increased viewership (ratings), and (2) increased advertising pricing.” Therefore, the scenario that The Fashion Channel will implement must increase TV ratings and advertising revenue. Relevant Facts Ratings One of the most important goals of The Fashion Channel’s new marketing plan was to improve their average rating compared to similar programming on CNN and Lifetime. According to Exhibit 1, TFC’s average rating was 1.0 (1.1 million households), while CNN and Lifetime enjoyed average ratings of 4.0 (4.4 million households) and 3.0 (3.3 million households) respectively. A major difference between The Fashion Channel and the other two networks is the time period of their programming. The main purpose of TFC is fashion and therefore programs around fashion 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CNN and Lifetime, however, serve a larger purpose than fashion, and therefore only present programs dedicated to fashion Monday through Friday from 9-11pm (Lifetime) and Monday through Friday from 8-9pm and Saturday to Sunday from 10-11pm (CNN).
