The Election Day
Sierra G
History
11/8/12

Election Day was November 6th, 2012! I wasn’t ready but I was ready. I was sitting in the living room with my mom and little brothers. We were flipping from Fox 13 to CNN. I was getting nervous and so were my brothers. I was on the edge of the couch, I kept closing my eyes and slickly opening them back up and biting my nails. It was a close race though. Thank the lord Obama won!!!
Barack Obama: 50% with 303 electoral votes
Mitt Romney: 48% with 206 electoral votes
The race was quicker than I thought and seemed like it was shorter than 2008’s race to me. Mitt Romney seemed really confident but if I was running for president, I would be the same way. I stayed up all night just to hear their speeches. Mitt Romney’s was good but Barack Obama’s was great. Barack Obama seemed even more dedicated to our country that night. This election made history. Barack Obama made history too. Not once…but twice! I was really excited and so was everybody else around me. The only part of the election I didn’t like was after the election was over. I don’t get on social networks but from the things I was seeing and hearing on TV and the things my mom told me, nasty comments were said. I don’t like that at all. And it wasn’t just one race saying these nasty comments. It was every race. I personally, don’t care what color anyone is, let alone our president. If I was able to vote and Barack Obama was white or vice versa, I wouldn’t vote for one of them just because of their race. It goes down to who has the best plan for us. So I don’t really understand why the comments were being made. Just like my mom, dad, grandma, etc. told me, “If it’s not nice, don’t say it” and “Don’t do something to somebody if you don’t like it yourself”. And it 2012 racism shouldn’t exist at all! All of that mess just made me mad but I don’t react or respond to ignorance so I just left it alone. Other than that, the election was great :)

This article shows bias to Trump winning the presidential election. This source will help my paper because it describes the instant emotions and bad feeling people felt when Trump won. November 4, 2008 the date when the whole world fell silent in the anticipation of the result of the 2008 US presidential election. November 4, 2008 the date when Barack Hussein Obama became the first African- American who was elected the president of the United States. This critical analysis examines the article: “The Politics of Cognitive Dissonance: Spin, the Media, and Race (and Ethnicity) in the 2008 US Presidential Election”. The article was published by Marilyn Lashley, who is employed in Howard University, in December 2009. Marilyn Lashley’s main point is, first of all, that even in the contemporary era voters vote not for the candidate with strong attitude on the essential issues but the candidate with whom they have a similar cultural…

“Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.” As playwright and poet William Shakespeare states, greatness is something that comes naturally to some, while others must put much effort in to achieve it, and others are forced into it. When examining the United States presidency, much effort must be put into identifying if a president was great and how the president rates compared to previous presidents. For example, political scientist Fred Greenstein (2005) describes six qualities that shape a president’s performance, such as emotional intelligence and political skill, and Joseph A. Pika and John Maltese (2004) add other elements, such as personal character and career, that shape a president’s performance. Besides examining the president on his personal strengths and weaknesses, Stephen Skowroneck (2003) states that it is also vital to evaluate what time period the president held office in, if the country was resilient or not at that time, and if the president supported the previous presidency. When evaluating if our current president, Barack Obama, will be remembered as a great president, using the above criteria and observation methods as well as comparing him to past presidents is vital. President Obama’s approval rating is currently 42% (Gallup.com), with citizens mostly angry about the country’s economic situation. However, with his use of new media and strong interpersonal skills, President Obama’s 2008 campaign and subsequent presidency has given Americans the most personal experience of any campaign and presidency to date. In addition, as the first African American president to hold the office, the historical significance of his presidency is enormous. Ultimately, despite the failures president Obama has experienced thus far in his presidency, President Obama’s campaign and presidency was so revolutionary that it will be remembered as great.…

I didn't like how the elections went this year. I don't like it because Donald Trump won and I think that because he won there will be a lot of bad things happening in the future. People are already being more racist than they were and he isn't even president yet. I think that there are going to be a lot of chaotic things happening because of Donald Trump. I also think that he would bring us the World War three because of how racist he is to other people . In the next few paragraphs I will be talking about why I think this and how it is already a problem that he is going to be president.…

he United States presidential election of 2000 was the 54th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2000. The contest was between Republican candidate George W. Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore, who was the Vice President at the time. The election had been a very close one, and Florida was to be the deciding state that announced the winner. Voting machines were to be used for the first time, and manufacturers assured that they would make vote counting much easier and much more efficient. The reason that the election was so controversial was that a large portion of voters hailing from Palm Beach County in Florida had had a very difficult time in voting for their desired candidate. Firstly, the votes tallied…

Being a millennial baby, I think that the election of President Barack Obama has had the greatest impact on the millennial generation, when he was inaugurated on January 20, 2009; everyone knew that everything would change. With President Obama being the first African America President, it gave some people a dosage of confidence, so to speak. I remember my father telling me that President Obama was elected. Even then, I thought to myself, I could do anything I wanted and be anything I wanted. That wasn’t quite the case because of one little problem: racism. Racism has been there ever since I can remember, just because of someone’s skin tone. Even at my school, I feel different because I am the only Indian in my class. The majority are Caucasians.…

    Democratic Campaign

The most important part of an election is arguably the campaign process. Once a candidate is nominated in a presidential election, the next step is to move forward with the steps of this process. Each of the candidates will have the opportunity to use recourses, no matter how scarce they may be, to attempt to overcome their opponent with votes. Running a campaign is something that takes a lot of responsibility and a good team of people. They will have first put together a campaign strategy where a detailed comprehensive plan will be put into action including details such as slogans, candidate's position on issues, personal appearances and more. To be completely successful a candidate's team must be able to get media coverage, raise important funds, be highly involved in social media, research the opponent, get America's views, and persuade them to vote. Nearly half of a budget for a political campaign is spent on television advertising. The ultimate goal is to reach the people and send out a message that gives the American people something to believe in.…

    Does Race Really Matter

    • 1725 Words

Recently, I wrote here that the fundamentals of the 2008 race decisively favor Barack Obama. As is often the case, however, my words were met with a familiar riposte: What about the race factor? Are white Americans really ready to elect a black man as president? It’s a recurrent refrain among Democrats and even some hopeful Republicans. As Andrew Kohut wrote here, “56 percent of Democrats believe that many people will not vote for Mr. Obama because he is black.”…

In November 2008, I was in Chicago and watching the celebration of the election of Barack Hussein Obama I wondered if the world that I had lived in for the past 58 years was about change. There were people or shall I say fellow Americans of every description sharing in a moment of shock and awe. When this election process began I had little thought that Obama would actually win. My thoughts were that he would put in a very good showing and Hillary Clinton would naturally win. But, after he won in Iowa I became a believer in “hope and change”. When I realized this was an actual dream that could come true my feet hardly touched the ground. A “post racial” society was possible or so I thought.…

    Subtle Racism Analysis

    • 442 Words

Numbness and sadness as I solemnly write this. Those characteristics very opposite of my usual state of being, however this is how I felt at three in the morning watching President-elect Trump give his speech. Utterly I watched the election today unable to fathom how America could elect this man. Reading and listening to things his supporters scream at rallies and publish on the fictional fantasy land that is the internet. Consumed with hatred my heart was heavy. Racism isn’t integrated in our communities, obviously because I can use the same bathroom as caucasians. That doesn’t signify I don’t take note when I walk into a BBQ place with a white girl in Calhoun, GA and every pair of eyes is looking at me with either confusion or hatred. Subtle racism is a social construct that humans of different pigment deal with, and that is fine, my life went on. Nothing I haven’t been through. However today I felt a unprecedented level of hated. I have never felt more unwelcome, unwanted, and unacceptable. How dare you America? Seventeen of the most important years of my life in this nation...to feel that in one morning. How dare you make me feel un-American as I type this on my MacBook in my room, with every light on, air conditioning and 30 pairs of shoes for no reason? See what I’m getting at? I'm not saying all Trump supporters are racist, they’re my friends, they’re my neighbors, they have opinions. Sadly you can’t neglect the fact that unfortunately a fairly large portion of…
