This study will test the effectiveness of the English language communication skills of selected 3rd year BSU-BSE English majors in Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). As stated by Brown, 2011 that Effective communication takes on essential components to carry out its main goal; to achieve understanding. Communicators should also take into consideration the medium that they used to carry out their message/s. Thus, this study will focus on the effectiveness of the student’s application of their language communication skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing with the use of a computer, internet and the World Wide Web to communicate. Definitions, concepts and categories together along with the different skills, components and process of communication will be discussed to greatly support this study. In addition to establish a firm context, the different concepts and terms used in CMC will be thoroughly covered. Finally, the data will be collected from selected 3rd year BSU- BSE English majors of class 2012-2013 and will be statistically analyzed.

The main purpose of conveying information is to create shared understanding. Furthermore, humans convey information through a variety of methods: speaking, telephones, email, blogs, TV, art, hand gestures, facial expressions, body language and even social contexts. Communication can occur instantaneously in closed, intimate settings or over great periods of time in large public forums, like the Internet.
Through the use of a medium to communicate with others, a new form of communication was developed, in order to ensure a smooth transition from a complete visual and vocal form to an entirely text based one. This new form is called computer mediated communication.
