Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs
Imagine being in a town where in the span of two days, 29 people were attacked and many died. The three boys mostly attacked their victims with blunt object like hammers and large metal weapons. The boys didn’t start off harming people, they actually started with animals. When the criminals were going after their victims, they would try and leave them conscious. Horror swept the streets of Dnepropetrovsk as killings increased. Suddenly, the quiet town was turned into a hell on earth. The Dnepropetrovsk Maniac murders were some of the worst killings in the last 100 years.

“The first two murders took place late June 25, 2007. The first victim was 33-year-old local woman named Ekaterina Ilchenko” (Gazeta). “Within an hour of the first murder, the two men attacked their next victim, Roman Tatarevich. His head was smashed with blunt objects numerous times, rendering him unrecognizable” (Zavtra). “On July 1, two more victims were found murdered in the nearby town of Novomoskovsk” (Versii). “July 6, three more were murdered in Dnepropetrovsk” (Versii). “The next day, July 7, two 14-year-old boys were attacked in broad daylight as they went fishing. One of the two friends were killed, the other managed to escape” (Versii). Thirteen more murders followed, often with multiple bodies found in the same day. Two victims were found every day from July 14 through the 16 (“Lowlifes planned 40 murders”)

The three suspects were arrested on July 23, 2007. Igor Suprunyuck attempted to sell a mobile phone they had stolen from one of their victims at the local pawn shop. When that phone was turned on to show that it worked, its location was tracked by law enforcement agents. Igor Suprunyuck and Viktor Sayenko were arrested in the pawn shop (Katsman). Alexander Hanzha was arrested at home, reportedly managing to flush other stolen phones down the toilet. The phones were recovered, but all the information on them was lost (GlavRed).
