The Deadliest Disease without a Cure
Where do you begin about cancer and all its types? Let along all the causes and effects they have physically and emotionally. Cancer is known as one of the deadliest diseases there is without a cure. More than 30% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and preventing infections that may cause cancer. About 70% of all cancer deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. In 2008, 7.6 million people died of cancer - 13% of all deaths worldwide. (www.who.int)
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that in 2010, 569,490 died from cancer in the United States. Cancer causes more deaths every year than deaths caused by AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. There are just so many types of cancer that we know a lot about and what to expect from them, but there are a lot that are still mysteries to us as well. (www.who.int) Lung cancer affects more than 200,000 Americans each year. In most cases lung cancer is mostly caused from smoking cigarettes. Smoking causes nearly 9 out of 10 cases, about 86%. A further 3% of cases of lung cancer are caused from second hand smoking in non-smokers. There are exactly two types of lung cancer non-small cell and small cell. Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common lung cancer there is. Small cell lung cancer on the other hand is the fastest growing type of lung cancer as well as the one that spreads the quickest. Although cigarette smoking is the main cause, anyone can develop it. Lung cancer is always treatable, no matter what the size is, location, weather the cancer has spread, and how far it has spread.
