The Dalai Lama should be reinstated as the political leader of Tibet. The current Dalai Lama is the 14th in line and was inducted as the Dalai Lama at the age of fifteen. The Dalai Lama has done many great things for Tibet over the course of time. He negotiated a peace treaty that gave Tibet religious and economic affairs along with other many other things. The Chinese government invaded Tibet in 1950 and had some brutal attacks on the nation of Tibet. This forced the Dalai Lama and other leaders into exile and has been there ever since. The Dalai Lama’s activism has gained the support of many big groups such as Amnesty International to try and stop the domination of Tibet by China. The Dalai Lama still travels the world seeking help from other countries and taking whatever help he can get. He has gone above and beyond what was expected of him and is why he deserves to be reinstated as the political leader of Tibet.
In the early 1940’s Chinese had organized a peace treaty with Tibet that would forego the invasion. When Tibet delegates went to go meet with the Chinese government to sign the treaty, Chinese officials decided to change some laws in the treaty without Tibet knowing and sign the treaty on behalf of Tibet. This left Tibet with little to no rights and the worst part is the invasion plan was back on. In 1951, the Dalai Lama offered China peace in the deal and they accepted every offer except for the part where China had to leave Tibet. Although China still had full control over Tibet, Tibet received religious affairs, economic affairs and refugees working in China were set free to there homeland. This treaty negotiation was very successful even though Chinese troops were not pulled out of Tibet. The Dalai Lama’s next big step is to somehow make a deal with China to let Tibet become independent. This treaty negotiation helped Tibet out a lot and is a big reason on why the Dalai should become the political leader.
