Reaction Paper: The Count of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo is an adventure story primarily concerned with themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness. It focuses on a man who is wrongfully imprisoned, escapes from jail, acquires a fortune and sets about getting revenge on those responsible for his imprisonment. However, his plans have devastating consequences for the innocent as well as the guilty. The movie delves on a society of conspiracy and injustices. It also revolved around between the rich and the poor people can or cannot do when it comes to influence and power. Consequently, it tells us the price we have to pay for being innocent and uneducated. Education is indeed very important for all of us. Moreover, it relates to education as the source of man’s liberation. In the beginning of the story, we meet Edmond Dantes. He comes across as a model of honesty, ability, and innocence. He is a good-hearted and God-fearing person, a sailor who had a bright future ahead at the moment he's imprisoned: he was about to be promoted and to marry the woman he loved so dearly. But unfortunately, he has been betrayed by his own friend named, Ferdinand Mondego and later takes his fiancé Mercedes as his own wife. Edmond Dantes was the victim of an unfortunate coincidence, because of lack of education, he doesn’t know how to read and write, thus, he wasn’t able to know what the letter is all about which was then a plan of rebellion by Bonaparte. He then was faced in a situation he never expected to come into his simple living. It tells us how important education is to our lives. It is hard to be uneducated. We need to learn for us to grow and to develop ourselves. And so, Dantes suffered too much pain at the Chateau d’If especially from his anniversaries severe punishments of ropes being hit on him on his back, and I really feel very sorry for him, as if I want to be there and prove his innocence because he really is.
