Huffman Trucking Company was created in 1936 with a single tractor-trailer. There growth is due to World War II and the U.S. Governments demand for carrier services for factories in the Midwest to ports on the East Coast. In 1945, there growth increased to 36 trailers and 16 tractors. There growth is due to internal sales with the acquiring of five Eastern regional carriers. This has allowed them to continue to be privately held. There business processes and organizational structure uses the transaction processing system (TPS). The transaction processing system collects and stores, retrieves, and modifies all data transactions. A transaction processing system supports the collection, monitoring, storage, and processing of business transactions and also provides the input data for other information systems in the organization. Transaction processing means to quickly process transactions and data. That process supports the core operations which lower the risks of transaction mistakes and allows for reliable processing of transactions. This paper covers the current system in use and will make suggestions on other systems that could be used to improve the overall business process at Huffman Trucking.…

Henry “Hal” McVey wrote a comprehensive article on the importance of industrial minerals in a typical first-world person’s life. I say first-world because not every single person in the entire world could relate to what he calls “a normal working day”. A working person in the Philippines could probably identify with some but not in all the routines. Nevertheless, McVey was successful in putting into light the many uses of non-metallic minerals in our everyday lives. He succeeded in providing a “broad insight into the importance of industrial minerals in our everyday life.” He did a great job in emphasizing “how much our lives would be altered without ready and economical access to these fundamental constituents.” Indirectly, Mr. McVey is saying that mining is important because our lives depend much on minerals.…

A hotly debated environmental issue regarding the region of South Cotabato, in which the T'boli tribe reside in, is mining. The environmental impact of mining is greatly dangerous to the Earth and to the surrounding people, as it includes erosion, formation of sinkholes, loss of biodiversity, and the contamination of soil, groundwater and surface water. Fortunately, a ban on open pit mining will remain a major stumbling block for Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) to develop the Tampakan project. This ban will be implemented until 2016, and continues to be…

Having visited Surigao Del Norte once a month starting February until August of this year, I was deeply frustrated by the negative impact of mining in the province. I saw how communities affected by mining. I heard how indigenous people had been shifted off their lands to make way for mining and how their consultation rights had been ignored. I saw polluted rivers, destroyed mangrove forests, damaged coral and ruined agriculture. I concluded that Surigao del Norte is in danger of losing much of its rich biodiversity and damaging the lives of unique indigenous cultures.…
