The central thesis of the book Bad Blood would be that there is always going to be some form of racism and racial misconduct in the United States. The book shows how the educated (doctors) deceived the less educated (blacks) men clearly illustrating medical misconduct and racism. Because the Tuskegee men were so different and considered inferior they didn’t care if they died and obviously thought the rest of the world wouldn’t care either. These men were chosen and placed in harms way simply because they were not of the same race. There was a similar experiment performed prior to the Tuskegee study that claimed thousands, so why would they be so interested and ready to conduct another disastrous experiment?
Why was medical treatment withheld from the African American male patients? At first there was no medical treatment or protocol for the syphilis disease. These doctors were ruthless and had no respect for blacks. They treated them like animals because they were inferior to the white race. Doctors used these human beings to see how long it would take syphilis to kill somebody. They knew withholding treatment would give them a step further in their twisted plan. Also doctors knew that the patients were low income illiterate blacks that didn’t have much money or the common sense to seek treatment.
      As found in the book, the doctors wanted to “indulge scientific curiosity”. They also felt that the treatment available was too toxic and that it would do more harm than good. One doctor claimed that blacks were “immune to diseases” giving them more reason not to treat them for the deadly disease. Some   doctors expressed that the men themselves were responsible for their illnesses and deaths they sustained from syphilis saying that they were not going to force treatment on them, the men should have taken it upon themselves to sign up for treatment.
