The Celebrity Effect Celebrities have become a much bigger part of our society than ever before. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that celebrities have become much more widespread, they can be any one or from anywhere. Celebrities can be found on “reality” TV; in the gossip or entertainment columns; in magazines; on the radio; in sports; the list can go on and on. While celebrities do have a big influence, especially over children, I would have to say that it depends on the source or your point of view whether the influence is a positive or negative one. Any one who is influential can be affected it is up to that individual how. With the surge in “reality” television also came the boost in the reality TV celebrities. Reality television shows can range from contests, to following around While it depends on the type of show to determine the type of influence one would have on society, however, the majority of the shows are purely for entertainment purposes and they get the cast to see who can be more extreme than the next. With shows like My Super Sweet 16; Real Housewives; and Jersey Shore skyrocketing in ratings it’s no wonder why children seem to be growing up much faster than they have before. Celebrities are also everywhere you turn with the sudden increase in gossip columns, television shows, and magazines. Of course these sources usually only publish celebrities when they are at their worst, so this almost never has any positive influence.
