The Carnival

What is the first thing that you think about when you hear the word Carnival? There are a lot of holiday In the Dominican Republic, there is something called the carnival. It is a very special celebration that happens every year during the whole month of February, where every city has their parade every week. It is also one of the most important celebrations in The Dominican Republic. This celebration is characterized by the colorful costumes. People come from all over the world to participate in this celebration. But there are several things that come to mind such as time, place, and people’s roles

, but they do the biggest parade February 27. It takes place in the city of D.R. which is Santo Domingo. Everybody gets together in a special place call “el malecon”, it is a very important street next to the sea. Everybody starts walking, singing, and dancing. They usually go into every store and after they perform they get money. They play really loud music. They also walk around with special balloons “vejigas” makes out of tire’s tube making song on the ground and hitting the people. The month of February is a very festive month in The Dominican Republic. “The use of masks is to symbolize spiritual, supernatural and unknown spirit world entities”. “It is thought that The Dominican Republic was the first place in the Americas to observe the pre-Lenten carnival custom.” They prepare a lot of different kind of food and...
