The Best Moment of My Life
The best moment of my life

It’s the best moment of my life when I won the first prize in the National English Competition for College Students. People define the best moment of their life in different ways. For instance, my friends thought that the best moment was to watch the football match of Barcelona in the Nou Camp Stadium or say love to a girl in the university. However, mine is different. It happened in 2009 when I was a college student. As you know, there were varieties of competitions in the college such as mathematical model, academic debate, instrumental music, etc. I often joined them, but I failed until I won the prize in the National English Competition for College Students, which was the best moment in my life. The reason that I consider winning the prize to be the best moment is because I have learnt a lot during the process. Before I took part in the National English Competition, I joined the school competitions of academic debate and singing. Though I was well prepared for them, I still failed in the end. I felt disappointed and frustrated. As a result, I decided to quit participating in the English Competition. My teacher Mr. Lu found my unhappiness and came to comfort me. He told me that everyone wants to be the first in a competition, but only a few can be successful, most of us are failures. Don’t mind it , even if you fail. Just believe that you have made all your efforts and must learn something. These words inspired me a lot, so I kept joining the competition and I don’t mind whether I would be the winner or loser. In my last year of college, I took part in the National English Competition for College Students which was held by the National Education Examinations Authority. The contents of competition included written examination and oral interviews. That is to say, you need perform well in both the items and then you could win the prize. In order to prepare for the competition, I insisted on getting up at 6:00 to

I never imagine that I will take any academic award in high school or any time for all that matter. When I stepped excitedly and nervously into the stage to get my third academic letter award in high school, it was the most amazing moments in my life; and without a doubt, it was a fantastic fantasy in between my hands. Arriving at my new school excitingly, Marshall High School, I met my new counselor, who was the first person I met in school. She told me about the school system, the teachers, clubs/organization and my own classes; all that was eagerness and thrilling. We walked around the school; I started imagine who I will be and who I will be friends: one of the popular students, the normal students, or the losers.…

    My Defining Moment

Another defining moment and probably the most important to me is when I realised why I had been put here on this earth. I had been invited by some friends to a youth camp through De La Salle High School and even though I’ve always gone to church since I can remember something happened, something deeper, something wonderful. I realised that all I have and all I have achieved is meaningless without my Lord and saviour. I realised that I was here with the sole purpose of glorifying him. So now everything I do or achieve is with him in mind, and life is that much greater even though it’s also sometimes more…

At that moment I felt that my endeavors during school paid off, because this preparation helped me pass the TOEFL and SAT exams with high scores rather effortlessly, and I was elated when I discovered my scores were above average. In order to pass these exams, I had to be literate in English because I had to write essays, fix some sentences with grammatical issues and comprehend articles in English. The tough work of taking English classes simultaneously with Spanish and chess classes helped me prepare for these critical moments that decided where I would spend my future. These exams helped me obtain half a scholarship with the chess program. Furthermore, being good with computers, especially in computer programming, gave me an opportunity to receive the other half a scholarship to obtain a full scholarship to stay here in the United States and attend…

When I was in seventh grade, my middle school participated in a very well-known science fair competition in Los Angeles County. The fair showcased projects done by students all over the county, and only a few of the best students were chosen as winners. The winners, depending on the grade level, won cash prizes, medals, and even scholarship offers. As most people would be, I was really enthusiastic that I got an opportunity to participate in such a rigorous event.…

I have moved around quite a bit which means there have been many significant moments in my life, but one seems to stand out, It happened a few months after I moved to my sixth school, Parkers Prairie High School. While I was only in seventh grade, I was still considered a high-schooler because of the way the district functioned. This meant that I had harder classes and more homework, but it also meant that I could participate in high school clubs, so I became part of the PPHS Knowledge Bowl Group. A significant event in my life is when my team won a Knowledge Bowl Meet because I got out of school, I got to meet new friends, and it gave me a strong sense of accomplishment.…

In my 5th grade, I won the class spelling bee, beating a good grade school friend of mine. The rules were that the winner, and the runner up of each grade would go on to the next stage. Within the next week was the grade competition. We gathered in the school conference room for the competition. My 5th grade companion lost early in the competition, but I continued on. All I could do is spell the words the best I could, and hope for the best. Low and behold, I won, despite going up against kids older and more knowledgeable than…

My last year of band, my junior year, we got accepted into going to all-state band. I’d never done this before, so it was a whole new experience. We had been working on a bookmark piece for the entire year now, ready to perform it for competition. It was titled “Bookmarks from Japan”, and is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve heard to date. We preformed in front of four judges, and then listened to other bands. Once the awards rolled around, surprise filled the room. Our band had taken second place overall. In the ENTIRE state! I’ve never felt more recognition for hard work than I have in my life.…

I was so, so, so happy, they said Santiago Arredondo and that was probably my favorite time someone said my name. I was going through all the things I just did and how crazy that was that on my very first drive, chip and putt that I just flawlessly won. A peak moment in my life is the poetry slam the creative writing class held last year in the Little Theatre. I’ve never been confident in my writing or art and always talked down on myself about how I will never be good enough. Even with my lack of confidence Ewing convinced me to get on stage and read something. I was terrified of reading my writing in front of a sea of faces every hour, but it really wasn’t that bad. I grew more confident with my writing every time I read and I made it to the finals in the competition when I never thought I’d make it past the first round. That whole experience really help shaped me to becoming a strong, confident person.…

Beginning speech and debate, I was in way over my head. I had no idea how to go about writing and researching things that would make me sound intelligent and do well in competitions. It didn’t go well. Spending hours researching, writing and practicing speeches did nothing to improve my success; yet I didn’t mind in the slightest. The main event I focused on throughout the year was oratory,…
