Introduction
Man’s day to day activities are not being sufficed by manual processes, thus, the need for technology emerged to make life easier and productive.
Automation is used to describe a wide variety of systems in which there is a significant substitution of mechanical, electrical, or computerized action for human effort and intelligence. In general usage, automation can be defined as a technology concerned with performing a process by means of programmed commands combined with automatic feedback control to ensure proper execution of the instructions. It utilizes control systems and information technologies reducing the need for human intervention. It plays an increasingly important role in the world of business and economy and in daily experience. The focus on using automation is simply to increase productivity and reduce costs. With such reasons, it is now often applied primarily to increase quality in the manufacturing and business process where automation can increase quality substantially.
A good application of automation in business processes are the presence of Point of Sales Systems, Inventory Systems and Information Systems. Such systems converts manual business processes into automated system that would provide computerized data to inventory process, produce data accurately and provide reports that meets the need of the clients.
Background of the Study
Point of Sales is the physical location of a transaction, but usually refers to a device or system that is used to record the transaction for the retailer. It consists of a computer platform, a variety of special peripheral devices and the Point of Sale software application that ties it all together (The Small Business Depot, 2003).
