Religion has always played an important role in Man’s life as it was a source of spiritual comfort in times of distress. In ancient times religion played an important part in lives of the people and many different gods were worshipped. The Aryans of ancient India worshipped gods of nature of things around them. This was because they could not understand or control the elements and hence, invested them with divinity and personified. They worshipped 33 male gods the most important gods were Indra was the war god, Surya was the sun god, Agni was the fire god. The Aryans did not ignore the unity of god; they did believe in a supreme god where all others were manifestations. Mayas believed that nature was closely related to the world of the supernatural. So the also worshipped many gods that were related to different wonders of nature. Each day of the month was related to a different god or goddess number 4 was the sun god and 10 was the god of death and 13 was the rain god.
The ancient Greeks believed that every god and goddess had its own religious festival and they had over 60 festivals a year. On these days people would offered sacrifices on the altar outside the Parthenon and then go inside to pray to the goddess Athena. Many homes also had alters and they would offer sacrifices hoping to receiving gifts or avert punishments. The Egyptians also worshipped many gods and goddess that were believed to have human forms, although some heads of animals and birds. One unique thing about the Egyptians was the Pharaoh’s have been believed to communicate with the gods and were consider the high priest of the people. This is the first ancient religion that had a human that was representative of god. There are many other forms of ancient religions that we can discuss but the theme is that they all had many gods or goddess that they worshipped and a majority of the religions were nature based meaning the gods were related to the sun, fire rain and many other things in...
